  1. Watched the highlights last night and I noticed towards the end we were noticeably less fit than they were. McGregor saved us a few times but our defence was ragged and uneven. Fitness or less than judicious use of the bench? Maybe this merits attention in the summer too.
  2. Living abroad does have advantages but you still feel down for a few days after a loss like yesterday. As a senior citizen, I'm just glad that there is no workplace razzing for me these days.
  3. Hope that today wasn't too bad for the bears at work. Growing up, we always talked about the game in the week before and argued about the game in the week after.
  4. Bobby Shearer was a captain for the ages who took no prisoners at any time. Team captains may not always be the most talented players but are generally the best leaders. Always liked Greig and Derek Johnstone.
  5. Some year ago, I was trying to explain this to a friend out here in Vancouver and I've been thinking about this since. The words "culture", "heritage" and "legacy" came up. Maybe quite appropriate at this time of year.
  6. Greatest header of a ball I've ever seen. Strong partnership with Ralph Brand. Still remember an old song you don't hear these days: "And the first one was scored by Millar, the second by Ralph Brand." RIP
  7. In 1994, I was back in Scotland for a rare visit. We lost three consecutive games at home - to celtic in the league, Falkirk in the League Cup and AEK Athens in a Euro qualifier. Ruined the holiday so it did. First time in posting in several years. Last time I posted, I was accused of being a member of the dark side. The Widow's Son (Vancouver)
  8. Did not mean to cause any friction or any offence and do apologize if you were offended.  I enjoy the banter of Rangers Media and the recollections of bears from all over the world which can bring back memories of a youth in Scotland.  Good luck to you.

  9. And why was Derek Johnstone - top goalscorer in Scotland in 1977-1978 with 40 goals - brought to the World Cup but did not play?
  10. Thank you for your recent comment and recognition.

  11. Hi Banjobear:

Many thanks for your detailed response to my query about Norrie Martin playing outfield and apologies for not getting back to you sooner.  I'd like to read a little more about this game and will try to track down a source.  In the meantime, thanks again.

      Hi TWS,

No trouble at all. If you do find out more please share.

      Banjobear.

  12. Met a member of the Manchester LOL in 1979 at a home game vs. Morton. He told me that the RSC marched in the Orange parade down there. That's the best I can do from the 'Couve. Wonder if that would happen these days.
  13. Walter Smith travelled on the Carmyle bus and Jock Wallace was a member of a club on the east coast. I'm sure there must be many more.
  14. Not too upset in the 'Couve. We weren't unlucky, we weren't cheated, there wasn't a massive gap between the teams. We were rank rotten in terms of selection, tactics and performance. No complaints. If we can't change our shape, it will happen again. Your move, Mr. Gerrard.
  15. Spare a thought for us out on the west coast with a 4am kick off. Early to bed tonight, up at 3am, some coffee and toast and get set for the jamboree. I'll be the only one in the house up at that ungodly hour. Back to bed if we win, lose or draw. Well, that's the plan. Nae swearing, nae singing, nae chanting, nae enjoying yirsel. On previous occasions when we've lost (heavily), I've taken to long strolls to recharge, enjoying the 'Couve.
