  4. Greetings Fellow Bears, You may remember that around this time last year, @Darth Bear put himself though a Tough Mudder (10-12 mile assault course designed by British Special Forces), because: 1. His employer (DHL - Good Guys!!) will match any money he raises for Erskine up to £600 2. He’s a nutjob Darth is still a nutjob this year, and has put himself through yet another Tough Mudder, and once again he was looking for our support. But unfortunately this year, it clashed with our own End of Season Fundraiser, and it didn’t seem fair to hit you with both at once. See?? I do have a heart!! But now that our own End of Season Fundraiser is well under way, we probably have enough slack to give a little attention to Darth’s efforts. So if you would like to help @Darth Bear in his efforts to double our support for Erskine, then simply PM me for donation instructions. THEY ARE NOT THE SAME PAYMENT DETAILS AS USUAL. So please PM me for donation instructions first. And here’s your real incentive… Darth sent me a couple of pics of himself in the mud, and if we get enough donations, I’ll let you see them.

You can pledge your support below and will be added to the Pledged List and then transferred to the Donated List, once your donation has been received. 6. Erskine is considering opening a day activities centre on the Erskine estate in Bishopton. The centre would be for any veteran currently living in the community, aged 65 or over, who has served in any of the Armed Forces regular or reserve. In order to gather more information about the need and requirements for a day centre, we have put together a very short survey and would be delighted to hear from any veteran who lives in the following local authority areas: Renfrewshire; East Renfrewshire; Inverclyde; East Dunbartonshire and West Dunbartonshire. The survey is available online on our website: https://www.surveymonkey.co.uk/r/WB9VMJH Please share with any veteran who you feel might be interested in giving us their views. Thank you. - Erskine
  7. My elected MSP is Derek Mackay pictured above (Renfrewshire North and West; Representing Renfrew, Bishopton, Bridge of Weir, Crosslee, Erskine, Gallowhill, Houston, Inchinnan, Kilmacolm, Langbank and Quarriers Village ) and he is currently the Cabinet Secretary for Finance and Constitution. He is also currently the SNP Business Convener (Chairman of the Party). Considering the lack of comment on the disgraceful scenes marring the end of the Scottish Cup final I have emailed him the following; "Dear Sir, As my elected MSP I would like to hear/read you as being on the record with your views on the mass pitch invasion, damage to our National stadium, mass-incitement of the Rangers support, violent thuggery/hooliganism, player/official assault etc. etc. carried out by Hibs fans during their teams Scottish Cup Final victory on Saturday afternoon. Furthermore I would like you either to offer explanation, or, to ask the question as to why our elected First Minister is in the media strongly condemning the lack of golf club membership to women yet she is silent on these disgraceful, violent, criminal, inflammatory and possibly repeating scenes (if the authorities do not stamp it out prior to subsequent encounters between the two sides) bar to say 'Congratulations' to Hibs on their victory? She is after all the very same First Minister who has taken a hard line against what some consider to be offensive words, your party as I need not remind you passed legislation with regards to that despite its controversial nature. There is surely a scale of gravity in which it is recognised that physical violence supersedes words/songs? I would like to remind you that following a Hearts fans outrageous violent assault on Celtic manager Neil Lennon, among other offences committed on the 11th May 2011, our then First Minister Alex Salmond commented the very next day to say... "Let’s be clear, there were a number of incidents last night at Tynecastle, I've had a full report on them, they are totally unacceptable, they're not going to be tolerated and action will follow which makes that clear. "They would be damaging if we were going to tolerate them, but we're clearly not going to tolerate them. " "As you know, we had a range of issues connected with Old Firm matches. A summit was held, the clubs, the football authorities, the government participated in that. At that time, just a few weeks ago, a number of people thought it was an overreaction, thought we were overreacting to events at one game." "I think with everything that's happened over the last few weeks people now realise that wasn't an overreaction, it was a very timely thing to do and the action group which was established between these parties after the summit which has a range of measures which are now going to be brought into force, that's very timely as well," Salmond added. "Let’s be absolutely clear as first minister of Scotland, we are not going to tolerate Sectarian displays of any kind in the terraces and stands of football matches," he continued, "that will be driven from games in Scotland. Nor are we going to tolerate hate pedalled over the internet in an anonymity, people think they've got some immunity as a result of that, that's not going to be tolerated either. "There's no debate or discussion about this anymore in Scotland, that's just the way it's going to be. It's not going to be easy, it's going to be difficult, it won't happen in a match, perhaps it won't even happen in an entire season, but that's what's going to happen. We're going to eradicate it from our football game, and we're going to eradicate it from wider Scottish society." Here we are, comparatively on the 23rd of May 2016, 5 full years later, at least 42 hours (by the time you read this email) after the worst scenes in Scottish football for decades and not a word of condemnation at Hibs fans behaviour by our current First Minister or even yourself as I understand it. When there is video evidence showing multiple Rangers players being assaulted without the police and stewards coming to their aid it's a wonder that no one was killed never mind seriously injured. I should not have to remind you sir, coming from Renfrew, with Erskine, Bishopton, Inchinnan, Houston and Langbank among the communities you are an elected representative of, that these are well known Rangers supporting areas and in turn a very large number of your constituents await with bated breath your response, as we do your superior and our collective First Minister, Nicola Sturgeon. I trust I will hear/read both of you on record addressing this matter forthwith as a matter of urgency! Yours Faithfully (Name disclosed in the email but not in this post)" If you too live in Renfrew, Bishopton, Bridge of Weir, Crosslee, Erskine, Gallowhill, Houston, Inchinnan, Kilmacolm, Langbank or Quarriers Village and wish to contact Derek as your constituency MSP, you can do so by: Email: derek.mackay.msp@parliament.scot Telephone: 0141 885 2076 Write/Visit: Constituency Office 37 Hairst Street Renfrew PA4 8QU
  8. Rangers Charity Foundation Announce Forces Partnership http://www.rangers.co.uk/news/club-news/item/9823-charity-announce-forces-partnership RANGERS CHARITY FOUNDATION is delighted to announce a new Armed Forces Partnership for season 2015/16 with four services related charities, maintaining our proud and long-standing relationship with the armed forces and associated charities. With the backing of the Club and the fans, we are aiming to raise £25,000 to be split between ABF The Soldiers’ Charity, The Royal Navy & Royal Marines Charity, the RAF Benevolent Fund (£5,000 each) and veterans charity Erskine (£10,000). Erskine is celebrating its 100th anniversary this year and our donation will contribute to a special Memorial Garden whilst our support of the official charities of all three services will ensure that they can continue their vital work with the brave men and women of our armed forces. Connal Cochrane, Manager of the Foundation, commented, “We have a strong tradition of helping services related charities, having worked in partnership in the past with both Erskine and ABF The Solders’ Charity. The Foundation has also supported SSAFA and Erskine via our Fans Forces Fund and regularly assists a range of other organisations, from Help For Heroes to Combat Stress, in other ways, such as donating tickets and signed memorabilia and organising match day can collections. “Armed Forces Day and Remembrance Day at Ibrox are always special occasions and an opportunity to show our appreciation for the brave men and women of our armed forces, both past and present, as well as support associated causes such as Poppyscotland and the charities of each branch of the armed forces. “The Foundation is very proud to continue this long-standing work by pledging to raise £25,000 for season 15/16 for Erskine, ABF The Soldiers’ Charity, The Royal Navy & Royal Marines Charity and the RAF Benevolent Fund and I’m sure everyone in the Rangers Family will once again back our efforts every step of the way.” The Erskine Memorial Garden Erskine is marking its centenary by creating a memorial garden in remembrance of those who lost their lives in both world wars and subsequent conflicts. The Erskine Memorial Garden will bring together three existing memorial sites within the Erskine estate at Bishopton - “The Regimental Walls of Scotland”, “Japanese Prisoners of War Memorial” and “The Lost Gardeners of the Great War” - and will create a paved walkway linking all three sites which will wind through woodland filled with trees, shrubs and wild flowers. The Garden will provide a beautiful place for residents, their families and visitors, staff, volunteers and the wider community to enjoy. Sara Bannerman, Head of Fundraising at Erskine, commented: “We are delighted that the Rangers Charity Foundation has chosen to continue its support of Erskine and we look forward to working with Foundation during season 2015/2016. The creation of an Erskine Memorial Garden will allow us to celebrate our centenary in 2016, to honour those who lost their lives in both world wars and subsequent conflicts, and to provide an additional outdoor space for all current and future residents to enjoy for many years to come. We are most grateful to the Foundation for the pledge of £10,000 towards the project and would like to thank all involved for their generous support of our work.” Royal Navy & Royal Marines Charity The Royal Navy and Royal Marines Charity is the principal charity of the Royal Navy. It exists to support sailors, marines and their families, for life. Since 2007 it has funded projects and facilities that boost morale for those who serve today. It also distributes millions of pounds annually to military charities who care for the children, families and veterans of the Naval Service. ABF The Soldiers’ Charity The Soldiers’ Charity – the Army’s national charity - has been working with soldiers and veterans from every conflict since World War Two by giving practical support to the brave men and women who serve in the British Army. Not only is the Charity there for our soldiers and veterans when they fall on hard times, but it provides critical financial support for their families too. RAF Benevolent Fund The RAF Benevolent Fund is the RAF's leading welfare charity with a proud tradition of looking after serving and former members of the RAF as well as their partners and dependent children. The charity provides a broad range of welfare initiatives, from childcare centres to housing for those injured in conflict, and from debt relief counselling to mobility aids, such as wheelchairs. The Rangers Charity Foundation wishes each of the charities the very best with their work over the coming year to help serving personnel and veterans alike and looks forward to raising funds for these great causes.

  10. We are pleased to announce that £966 was collected in total for The Erskine Appeal as a result of Thursday’s fund raising efforts. This consisted of Blackthorn donating £1 for 242 pints of cider sold and amazingly the fans donated £724 to the collection. This was a fantastic effort and we would sincerely like to thank everyone who contributed. It is very much by everyone involved. We will round the donation up to £1000 and I think all The Rangers Family can be proud of the support they show to this deserving charity. We will also be running a night at the end of March in aid of The Erskine Appeal, of which details will be released in the near future. Thanks everyone. 11. We are delighted to announce that Blackthorn, official shirt sponsors of Rangers, have kindly agreed to donate £1 from every pint of Blackthorn Cider bought from our pub on Boxing Day. They have agreed to donate this money to the Erskine Appeal. To maximise this potential donation, we have decided that we will give the customer a saving of £1 from every pint of Blackthorn. That means for one day only, our home match against Stranraer on Boxing Day, pints of Blackthorn will be £2. We hope that this great gesture from Blackthorn will raise a decent amount of money for Erskine. 12. As you may know, the Sponsors' Fund will be treating a group of Erskine Veterans (from the Anniesland Care Home) to an Ibrox Stadium Tour. After the tour, we want to treat them to lunch in the Argyle House Restaurant. But since money spent in the restaurant goes to the catering company, and not directly to Rangers, our charter doesn't allow us to spend Sponsors' Fund money on that. So to get round that, a few of us have agreed that we will each chip in a couple of quid to cover the lunch cost. Hopefully you will join us, to make sure that we have enough to feed our honoured guests Just a couple of quid each is hopefully all that's required (edit: consensus seems to be a fiver). But even if you can only spare a quid right now, that's more than welcome If you can, please donate now (using the link below) - REMEMBER to put your username and the word "LUNCH" in the special instructions box on the paypal page. Oh and also add a post here, to keep the thread visible, and maybe PM me letting me know how much you've donated?
