GlasgowBluenose2012 3
Considering we have no "official" European football for the next 3-4 seasons I would suggest the club attempt to organise a friendly tournament inviting nine other clubs from across Europe that have narrowly failed to qualify for the Champions League or Europa league (and possibly teams winning promotion to the English Premier League but no SPL clubs invited), running concurrently with the official UEFA tournaments each year we are not in Europe. The format I would envisage could involve two groups of five teams playing each other twice (home and away). The Winner of one group would then play the runner up of the other group in a semi-final, with both semi-finals and the final being played at Ibrox. This could ensure at least 8 "European" games for the club even though it would not be a formal tournament. We could call it "The Ibrox Cup" and perhaps the ticket proceeds from the final could be donated to a charity. It might also be possible to sell TV rights to the BBC or STV.I don't know if there would be any SFA or UEFA rules preventing this (for example are money prizes allowed for friendly tournaments?) but if not I'm sure we could find clubs to take part. It would also be good experience for the younger players we're bringing in to get experience against top flight clubs.
wearethepeople1 3,897
I dunno if this would be allowed during the playing season But worth looking into
Londonderry_Bear 111
Sounds like a good idea, although if it was being played on European nights we wouldn't be able to sell any tv rights as UEFA won't allow tv to show games when their games are on
Creampuff 22,628
No reason why it wouldn't be allowed, but we wouldn't be able to televise it, as has been said above.Could be a decent moneymaker - it'd be nice to include clubs like Portsmouth and maybe Malaga who are going through financial difficulties. fauldy72 15
we should just arrange some freindlies against our blue brothers - linfield, chelsea and hamburg. we should get 3 full houses there and that is more cash for charles green to spend on getting us back to were we belong. Ryan_1 1,136
One-off friendly games throughout the year against glamour sides would be a good injection of cash, reasonable prices and pay at the gate and I reckon you'd get good attendences. The Monk 3,207
No reason why not, would be better than just 4 tams in the Emirates Cup. Hopefully teams along the lines of:LinfieldHamburgPortsmouth (good to do something for them)Anderlecht And others who as you have said narrowly missed out on Europe. glesgabear81 24
There might be some mileage in it, would teams be happy to risk players during a season for friendlies though?
heathen fish boy 8,579
seems a good idea, dunno how it would work given there may be a lot of midweek games later in season if it's a bad winter, only ourselves and the spiders will have undersoil heating
Leeds_Bear 8,110
I like the idea. But I think if this was possible it would have been done already.

Grumpybear 24
Dont have to be friendlies maybe a mini version of the Atlantic League (remember that) with "prizes"
Turnberry18 3,204
In my opinion the match with AC Milan three years ago galvanised our season and we went on to win the League. That was the match where we managed to give Edu a try and he took his chance and stayed in the team. Was a great atmosphere that night as well.
