Had not heard of him as a "Republic" player, so I googled it and found he was born in Belfast.

Stevenson was born south of the border, in the then "Free State", just one of the things you remember as a Rangers fan when you are constantly reading "factual shite" in the propagandist pro-celtic influenced Scottish Media.

Irony was he was a Prod and actually was accused of religioous bias in not playing for the ROI more often.

Just heard that to but, he played for the republic of Ireland. (tu)

The ROI football league and the Northern Irish league in the 30s, 40s and 50s would both claim jurisdiction over players born in any part of Ireland, and many actually played for both.

Many players also "adopt" other countries. In the old days it was a convenience (google one of the greatest players ever "de Stefano").

Nowadays with the "grandparents" or "residency" status becomes even more arbitrary.

Raman from STV did say he's the 1st player if he signs to have played for Rangers in the modern era from the republic.

Obviously carrying on the great tradition of lazy, half arsed journalism in the Scottish Media by not spending 2 minutes finding out real facts.
