Breaking news ticker says SPL agree proposal to merge with SFL. Merged League would include 42 clubsclubs with 12-10-10-10 divisional structure. Will be voted on next month and be in place for next season. More to follow.

I would have no issues with this. Effectively status-quo but under a new controlling body. Hopefully play offs can be introduced to increase the promotion and relegation places for the top division.

I don't see the SPL clubs voting for up to 3 relegation spots in the top league all the same.

Then, under new plan, Morton, Falkirk & Livvy (probably) play off against each other, to get the right to play St Mirren, for a place in the top tier the following season.

So, for Morton et al - 2 MORE games against teams they have already played 4 times (so will no be 5 times per season), then a single game against 11th place top tier team.

Yeah, not stacked in the top tier team's favour at all.......

The only reason they (governing bodies and league chairmen) want 12 in the top flight is to ensure 4 OF games a seen which = higher TV revenue. Better than the 12-12-18 it has to be said, though.

The play offs will mean 1 up 1 down, plus 1 more up / down - MAYBE.

It is a nothing, a sop, placating the rowdy SFL1 clubs, and protecting the SPL cabal again.

What it WILL do is encourage more SFL1 clubs for example to spend ahead of themselves chasing the play off place and possible promotion.
