1st_Jan_1994 4,868
Don't we?Do we even use them? Not starting another negative thread or purpose or for attention but I'm genuinely interested. If we do, do we not do prep work and train on them in the week before a game on an artificial pitch, like yesterday? how can we use it as an excuse if we can train on it and prepare and get a feel for it?I appreciate there's different types 3g/ 4g etc.

nacho_nacho_man 477
We have at least one synthetic surface pitch. Not only that but we spent a large park of last season on them at away grounds.I'd hope that we have a feel for the surface by now. AGC123 1,179
There is an outdoor synthetic pitch but it is crap like 2g carpet! It is used for the unders / ladies football. The indoor is 3G but really can't be used to prepare for an outdoor match.
Jimfanciesthedude 24,479
murray park outdoor surfaces are 3g are they not,

Carsons Dog 9,878
We could do with a wind machine for the indoor 3G pitch
Jimfanciesthedude 24,479
so why dosen't every club have them instead of old fashioned grass?clubs with them tend to rent them out to cover the cost, others may feel they wouldnt get enough business to cover the costthe initial outlay is very VERY expensive, new drainage and stuff
MasterD 7,435
They will be used as little as possible.Heard we are looking at getting a pitch relayed with the newest kind.
skylachy 51
Pretty sure we played our best football of the season on airdries 4g surface
jonbryce 63
Why?The air is warmer and drier so offers less resistance and the ball moves faster. Also there is no wind so it takes a more predictable path.

cruixranger 72
I watched the queen of the south game last week and their commercial directorwas talking about their new pitch and that he believed Rangers were looking to get the same one installed at Murray Park. scarkev 3,540
We have an indoor and outdoor astro facility....so there is no excuse. My team plays our home games at greenfield in shettleston which is a 4g pitch and we all prefer it as the bounce is truer and it's more conducive to getting the ball down and playing football! I think as much as anything else it's an attitude thing with some of our players but our tactics on these pitches is all wrong!
Tumshie 205
I believe that Ally will get it right but he needs to stop bringing up this excuse of the artificial pitch. It's wearing ridiculously thin.Lets be honest if the likes of Forfar had red ash pitches or played on tarmac we should still be demolishing them with relative ease.
