Sparkle 53,557
Is he injured? I thought he was solid in defence last year and would have liked to see him given his chance this season.
trueblueal 2,117
He was suspended on Friday but won't play much as he's not a ball player and possession is now king. We bought a new centre half pairing tailored to our style. He won't play unless we have injuries.
Smile 26,600
He's not very good and isn't really good with the ball at his feet.
LeeWallaceRFC 3,920
Everybody will get their chance. We'll have far too many games for them not to.
Sparkle 53,557
I just thought there were a few hairy moments on Friday night and he would add a bit of solidity to the defence while the new players bed in.
Turnberry18 3,204
He's not very good and isn't really good with the ball at his feet. For a centre half he's okay on the ball. The irony is that he would slot into the 433 system quite well, possibly better than a pure 442- he would be able to become the right back of a back three in possession quite well in my opinion; against Burnley he did just that and looked very comfortable. I don't think he has a long term future at Rangers though.
Prso's headband 35,428
Not as composed and assured on the ball as any of our back 4 and that is why he is deemed surplus to requirements.
ForeverBlue1872 463
He'll be used as cover at CB and RB.

CaptainAmerica18 846
He is a better defender than Kiernan has looked so farBased on what exactly? Kiernan hasn't done a whole lot wrong and clearly fits the criteria that the manager is looking for a lot more than McGregor does.

Will be better protected up when Eustace comes in I think.
Turnberry18 3,204
So you'd be dropping who? Tavernier? Why? When we go into attack Haliday comes to the middle, Kiernan goes out right, and Wilson goes out left; that gives us a back three- Tavernier goes to the middle or to the outside right, and Wallace to the middle or to the outside left. In defending we revert to a flat four- Kiernan assumes his natural cb position, and Tavernier comes to right back, and the same with Wilson and Wallace. McGregor and Tavernier can easily play together in the same defence.

So you'd drop Wilson or Kiernan in that case?

MarvinAndrews 80
I agree he has limited ability, but he is still part of our squad and would be sufficient this season.Sufficient as back-up, no one is debating that. But why play someone unnecessarily when you have better players available?

I was only explaining, if need be, that he could slot into that formation rather well, and he did against Burnley when he came on. Because he had played both RB and CB last season I was curious about how well he would do in this formation, and he seemed to naturally take to it; which is what I expected. I think we'll keep him this season, as cover.

MarvinAndrews 80
Exactly, and I haven't suggested anyone make way for him; but it is a squad game, and he is useful to us.Seems like we agree then
Turnberry18 3,204
Seems like we agree then Yes. One of the exciting things about this formation is that every player will play more than two positions, during the match, and some might even play three positions. I think Darren has proved he could handle the role that Kiernan has, if required.
raging blue 1972 894
i'd swap him for allan
Gaz52 11,837
Big McGregor was our best defender last season, a good enough player and so far Kiernan hasn't exactly looked a million times better than him so he could run him close for a starting slot IMO
