Stoke City chairman Sir Francis Joseph gave Rangers their Loving Cup. He had 1 request being that it should be used to toast the health of the reigning monarch prior to the clubs first home match of every New Year.

I take it this ceremony will be fully endorsed by cowdenbeath given their chairman is the renowned Donald finlay or will he make some excuse for not attending, after all we are not the same rangers according to him!!!

Tarrier chairman have attended so I'd assume DF would attend

I'm surprised that bastard Whyte never sold it along with the Arsenal shares, would love to attend this one year.

Whyte has his hands on it giving a little speech, Sandy Jardine and Gordon Smith also in attendance on club duty Mather? as well.

To be fair to Donald I don't think that is what he meant, and at that time I kind of felt the same way. Yes the club was the same club but it felt as if the "spirit" of the club had been eradicated...when I went to a match it just never felt the same as it had for the previous decades, probably due to the never ending list of charlatans and chancers who had became involved. Would be interesting to hear Donald's viewpoint now, because unlike then I most defo fell that iv'e got my Rangers back. And the very fact that the hatred and attacks seem to have reached summit fever proportions makes me feel they know that as well.

I love these old traditions, harks back to a time when, although probably just as competitive, there was a lot more camaraderie between football clubs, less commercialism and a more traditional belief in playing the game for its own sake, and recognised as an important part of the local community.

Stoke is not just in the "Potteries" it virtually was the Potteries. Whilst we Glaswegians are rightly proud of our engineering and ship building heritage, Stoke has,and still has its great pride in its ceramics industry which supplied the finest plates and dishes to the country and empire. So to receive a master crafted gift like the "Loving Cup" was indeed an honour.

I know the link is posted but here it is again.

And while I'm on the football history and nostalgia theme, to respect those old time football friendships and exchanging of gifts, and as soon as that wee cunt Whyte has got his justice, I would still like to see Rangers and Arsenal make some kind of gesture to replace the famously gifted and historically significant "Arsenal Shares" which were taken from us by said cunt Whyte and then sold like thirty pieces of silver.

Stuff like this goes way beyond just football.

Does anyone know if we use the original cup in the ceremony given the value. You could imagine some rabid letting it slip through his fingers.

It's the original cup that is used and then put back in its trophy cabinet.Hearing the history of all the pieces in the trophy room is worth a tour of the stadium on its own. I never tire of going on this tour every time I visit Scotland.
