Spfl Board To Discuss Sectarian Chanting

Sectarian singing heard during Rangers' match against Hibernian at Ibrox is to be discussed by the Scottish Professional Football League board.

Chanting from sections of the home support made up part of the league delegate's report from the Scottish Championship game on 28 December.

And the matter will be discussed at a meeting on 19 January.

However, the BBC understands it is unlikely that action will be taken because of current league rules.

Sectarian singing has featured in a number of domestic delegate reports in recent years.

But the club has provided the league with evidence that they were doing everything in their power to prevent such behaviour.

Rangers have also been fined by European governing body Uefa relating to offensive chanting in European matches.

It has led to calls for a rule change within the Scottish game in a bid to tackle the problem.

Following the match against Hibs, which Rangers won 4-2, the Glasgow club issued a website statement condemning fans who took part in what they described as "inappropriate singing".

Rangers stressed that it was a minority of fans involved and said would assist Police Scotland in identifying the culprits.

Uefa fined Rangers in 2006 and ordered the club to make a public announcement at each of their home games pointing out that the chanting of the Billy Boys was banned after it was heard during a Champions League match against Villarreal.

Reminds me, I saw this the other day:

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-beds-bucks-herts-35231289

This bit stood out:

Mr Seymour said: "IS, Isis, Isil, is a proscribed organisation and inviting support for a proscribed organisation is prohibited by law.

I wonder if the SPFL board are aware of this… Perhaps it might give them something else to discuss.

Ill be honest I want to hear TBB loud and proud in all its glory, every game home and away. They can't expect one set of fans to adehere to SUBJECTIVE "offensive" chanting rules and others not to, it's a simple as that. It don't work carry on.

We don't have any reps at these board meetings do we?

The current SPFL Board is made up of Neil Doncaster (CEO), Ralph Topping (Chairman), Eric Riley (Celtic), Stephen Thompson (Dundee United), Duncan Fraser (Aberdeen), Eric Drysdale (Raith Rovers), Mike Mulraney (Alloa Athletic) and Ken Ferguson (Brechin City).

So doesn't bode well then!

The one sided nature of the reporting on this subject is breathtaking. The fact that the match reporter was probably bullied into including it in his report is equally as shocking.

This is NEVER mentioned by the rags when fans of other clubs are guilty of "sectarian" singing.

What about that lot from the East end who spout sectarian songs every week home and away and been fined 5 times in 2 years in European competition ?

Aye but thats 'illicit chanting' remember, not sectarian chanting. The tims PR machine was in full spin with that one.

God fobid the SPFL have to smack the bums of their poster boys, the defenders of truth and justice in the world, the shining light of Scotland.

Arseholes the lot of them mate
