Union Bears Statement

The Union Bears would like to express our deep concern at the actions and behaviour of Police Scotland during last night's game at Cappielow. In light of recent events, it had been clear from the outset that the police came with the intention of targeting the Rangers support, and filming could be clearly seen from the main stand and opposing Cowshed. This was highlighted by the arrest of two Rangers fans who, despite no sectarian singing, were arrested and charged for allegedly joining in with 'stick your fucking camera up your arse' in protest against plans for facial recognition software.

Despite this being an obviously ludicrous and alarming charge, it is alleged that the two fans "swore in front of children during this song", and this is deemed offensive at a football match - despite no complaints being made by any children or any parents to the police. To add to this shambles, whilst processing two Rangers fans, the police officers were unaware of the name of the 'Offensive Behaviour at Football Act and Threatening Communications Act 2012' or the year it was introduced, and proceeded to ask the accused in question.

This charge is a particularly low point in Scottish Football and the actions of Police Scotland towards football fans. Further, this highlights the wider attack on the rights of football fans in Scotland and the danger posed by the Offensive Behaviour at Football Act and the plans for facial recognition software. It is no longer an argument over sectarianism; the attendance of football fans aiming to actively support their team has been deemed unacceptable. This is undeniable proof that police officers are being sent to football grounds across the country with the sole intention of making arrests on fans who dare to support their club.

The Union Bears would like to urge Rangers Football club and fellow Rangers fans for their backing over the clear escalation of this matter.

More protestant paranoia.

People really need to wake up and fight this head on in every department. The SNP are pushing this and everything else to align with their Statsi state. I shudder to think how this would look in an independent Scotland. Realistically the only paper would be "the National" with the republican bile it produces anyway it wouldn't look out of sort going with these stories. Can't shout, can't swear and the police can't even tell you why.

About high time our culture and people within every sector start fighting this otherwise we really will become insignificant in this country. That is what they want and its starting at the football already.

Pure paranoid but.

If that is now the criteria, when will people start being arrested for swearing on TV?

Welcome to facist Scotland.

You need to as a group start taking legal advice, and also having your guys filming these actions, be it on a phone, or wearing a go pro. Probably best to be professional and cut out the back chat to them as well, as we all know they are dicks and will arrest you for one thing, and change it at a later date.

Pretty scary seeing people being arrested for this.

Can the police jail me for swearing in conversation if there happens to be someone nearby who may be offended? How is this kind of thing not met with widespread outrage? This is some police state level stuff happening right now in 'modern' Scotland its a complete joke.

I had to go back and read this a few times, that's is absolutely ludicrous!

The crowds in this country are only going to continue to reduce if supporters are treated like criminals the minute they set foot in a stadium.  The treatment the plod dish out to our fans wouldn't look out of place in Nazi Germany. I'd love the see the club back us up but we all know that won't happen.

Don't let the truth get in the way of dribbling shite. Let me enlighten you.

'Holyrood, the Scottish parliament, has rejected a petition to legalize incest submitted by a man in Australia because there is no public desire or interest in doing so.

Due to a legal loophole derived from Scottish devolution, which means all petitions relating to a change in the law must be considered, Ministers of Scottish Parliament (MSPs) were forced to assess the request.

This is despite the head of the public petitions committee, Michael McMahon MSP, branding the content abhorrent.'

It does seem that the SNP want to impose a police state, the only way to stop it to get rid of the SNP government.

This is what they were discussing in parliament today. You'll have to read it twice because you won't believe it the first time.
