Jonny Doyle & Tommy Burns!

I remember a LC semi at Hampden and Doyle came out for a warm up pre match, he got the ball did a load of keeps ups ran up to the Rangers end and battered the ball into the net. We gave him pelters but it got worse as when the game kicked off he ran up to the Rangers end and scored early on blessing himself in front of us, Burns used to do that regularly as well! Good news was we beat them that night with a Jim Casey og in Extra time!

I will take the same result tomorrow please?

A place you rarely visit.

Most of my posts are in here but you would not know that as your another new Rangers supporter here.

Great topic on the Scum though, which certainly doesn't belong in here.

In my day the Old Firm players actually socialised a lot together and the media was less rabid so there was less individual hatred and slagging off in the papers at every opportunity like there is today, so there was no real personal hatred amongst the players and they seldom wound up opposition fans.

And also the hatred of the fans was more focused in those days on the club differences (mainly cultural and religous), rather than the players as individuals.

One's who got the abuse were McNeil, and unfortunately Paul Wilson in days when racial abuse was the norm (now thankfully a thing of the past), and later Alfie Conn and Johnny Doyle, and Aitken and Burns.

My belief is that modern Old Firm players, and it seems to be almost exclusively ex cellic players (Hartson, Lennon, Thomson, Sutton etc), have brought more personal hatred in to the game.

(Quite ironic none of those players I named as stirring up hatred nowadays are Scottish, maybe they are just too thick to see a lot of the Old Firm hatred is based on traditional banter and are either mentally ill as in Sutton and Hartson's case, or morally bankrupt as in Lennon's case).

There's been a load of them over my years since the fifties culminating in what represents bheast fc today and that is the animal who is the lurgan bigot! But for me the most consistent villain over the decades and who was there during the torbett years and would still defend them knowing what went on to the harm of innocents and is the bitter arrogant ignorant humourless face of the ira athletic wing. Who was it that said big John knew and Caesar too ! :sherlock:

We talked about changing our RSC name to include his name for a laugh because he was so bad he did more to help than hinder us ?.

I'm with you on this.

Amongst my group, Rogan was the first name we wanted to see on the team-sheet when we played them. I seem to remember he once started a game wearing red gloves. I think someone had a word with him and they were ditched quick-smart:ulster:.

The bad guys for us were Grant and Aitken. I actually played 5s against Aitken a few times and he turned out to actually be a decent guy but he was still a target when wearing that green and grey muck.

In our house it was Peter Grant. Just a glimpse of his wee smug rat face on the telly was enough to turn my old man into a panto audience member (he'd actually start booing and prodding his face on the telly screen). Even my mum hated him and she knew fuck all about football (but she knew she had to hate Peter Grant).

Who was yours?

peter grant for me aswell.  My maw absolutely despised him.
