Warbs agrees new deal

ahh, clicked on the link before realising it was for the Daily Courageous. Article below:

MARK WARBURTON is set to double his Rangers salary after thrashing out a new contract with chairman Dave King.

Record Sport understands the Englishman had been hoping to finalise the terms of a new deal before facing Hibs in last Saturday’s Scottish Cup Final.

But, although he was kept waiting by King, the pair eventually reached an agreement in principle before Warburton headed to the States on a family holiday yesterday morning.

It’s anticipated that Warburton will put pen to paper on the new contract when he returns to Scotland to oversee pre-season training next month.

It’s believed Warburton was on around £6,000-a-week during his first campaign at the club but, as a reward for leading Rangers into the top flight, he stands to take home twice as much - around £600,000 a year - next season.

But, even so, his pay packet will be dwarfed by that of Celtic’s new manager Brendan Rodgers who, as Record Sport revealed last week, became the highest paid manager in the history of Scottish football when he agreed to become Ronny Deila’s replacement on a jackpot deal worth almost £2.4m a year.

Warburton has already put serious work into planning for next season. Joey Barton’s arrival has set Ibrox pulses racing and he will be joined by Accrington Stanley duo Matt Crooks and Josh Windass who signed pre-contract agreements in January.

Last week, Liverpool’s Under-19 captain Jordan Rossiter also signed up for the challenge.

Meanwhile, Warburton’s assistant David Weir admits lessons will be learned from the Cup Final defeat by Hibs.

He told the club’s official website: “I think overall there’s obvious disappointment with the result and probably with the performance as well, I don’t think we played as well as we could have done.

“It’s disappointing to get in to a winning position as well and not hold on to that, so many aspects of the game we were disappointed with but within that as well you have to give Hibs credit for winning the cup.

“With all that has been going on this weekend sometimes that has got lost a little bit, so credit to them, they played better than us on the day and in my opinion deserved to win.

“We’re always learning, though. We’re always trying to get better, we’re always looking for areas where we can improve.

“Maybe the game on Saturday highlighted the areas we need to improve on.

“We’ll strive to do that, we’ll continue to look to get better and I think it’s quite clear in regards to where we need to improve, so that can be a positive thing for us moving forward.

“Maybe if we had won it would have disguised a few things that we need to improve on and maybe in the long term that will be a good thing for us.”

Good news indeed

Even in this story they can't help but put a little bit of poison in!

" although he was kept waiting by King"

Total shit.Warbs is already under contract so the improved deal had no set date to be agreed by.Plus he had obviously been busy with the cup final preparation and transfer business.

Still why let that get in the way of a snidely, shit stirring allegation!!

Don't understand what the filth paying their manager has to do with Mr Warburton's new deal wish they would stop mentioning them in the same article as us fuck them and all who sail upon them vile bastards.

I hope Mr Warburton's agreed a new longer contract though there's not a mention of it in the article.

in my opinion he deserves it. he has been magnificent for our club since joining. i have yet to meet one rangers fan who isn't happy with him. hope we can get him to sign an extension. i'd love if we could extend it to 5 years or maybe even 6 if we're lucky.

We shouldnt really be slagging the soap dodgers. We were paying £800,000 a year for the worst manager in our history, in the lowest divisions possible. They've reacted to how good a job MW is doing, and it's costing them.

Brilliant news if true. But I'll await for an official statement from Rangers before I trust that rag.

i hope it is costing them. they've seen what we're like with Warburton and now we're back they will need to start spending way more money if they are wanting any more titles. hope rodgers is as good as deila and they end up skint.

Let's just hope their scouts have forgotten how to spot talent from sitting on their arses for the last few years.

So no extension just more money which was probably already in his contract if we got promoted anyway.

Of course it lets them use a nonstory to pure show how much more the thims pay their manager, which for Scottish football is unsustainable.

I was expecting to read that this was an extension to his contract + increase in salary but as you say it seems a non story. The bit about Brenda is as expected and rather amusing at the same time.
