bordersbear 1,105
Just watched the Scottish cup Dundee game again. When fit Jason Holt has to be a first pick. If you watch that game again and see how much of the play he was involved in and how he gets into an advanced position that's what we seem to be missing so far this season. My midfield three would be rossiter sitting , kranjcar and Holt.Holt can dig in if needed but the way he keeps things moving at a high tempo and gets beyond the strikers is superb. Kranjcar has the pass to find him and I think those three should be our first choice midfield for killie on Friday .
The Godfather 70,781
We 100% have missed him. It's no shock that our ball retention and all round play has been poor since he has been out. Very underrated on here.
Duncn 247
I think windass could/will do a similar job
RFCRobertson 11,705
Him and Windass will be key players. Windass and Holt in rotation or hell maybe even together. The both of them are direct advanced play makers who just make things work. Windass, Holt and Niko have the creative spark that will let us get goals out of nothing. Ryju84 3,170
I can't remember what game I was talking about, but I made a point about how we miss his link up with the forwards / runs into the box. Would like to see him alongside Krancjar and Rossiter ...
CF2 WINNIE 1,006
If not starting he would be excellent to have to come off the bench and run at teams with fresh legs for half an hour, Definitely missed his link up play just outside the box. bluewhitevanman 1,619
That's the thing the players that are out will bring a new lease of life to the team and uplift everyone as its been so flat

I think we will see a huge improvement in the midfield when Holt and Windass come back. Right now we don't really have anyone in midfield who can run beyond the striker, they all want to sit deep. The likes of Holt or Windass will solve this problem IMO.
Smell the hotdog 4,015
As much as I like the wee man he never reached the same heights after coming back from injury. Too early to judge but Windass looks like could maybe bring more to the team.
Skyson1872 2,923
Our midfield 3 are too slow and lack energy in terms of attacking, even Crooks will help bring a bit of energy in as he never stops running either.
scott_22 40
100% agree . He's a loss when not playing . He pushes on and gets in the box, when strikers drift out wide . I hope he doesn't fall down the pecking order .
RangersMedia 35,961
He was the glue connecting midfield and attack last season. Excellent player with an outstanding footballing brain - the positions he takes up are class. Windass is not Holt. From what I've seen of Windass, they're 2 completely different players. He likes to pick the ball up and run with it. Holt is a player who moves into space and keeps the ball moving quickly.

jackrfc95 4,255
Before the season started I didn't see any way Holt was getting in the team, however now that he's missing you really notice how much energy he brings to the midfield. For me either him, Windass or Forrester has to play in one of the 3 midfield positions.
Courtyard Bear 41,357
My player of the year last season, we missed his form badly end of last year on the run in and we are missing him period start of this season.
ForeverBlue1872 463
Holt before Halliday and have Rossiter and Barton behind him. Wee Holts movement is outstanding, he just finds little pockets of space behind the defenders.
now then forever 298
Rossiter/Barton holding with Crooks and Windass would be my first choice midfield three when fit. Halliday/Kranjcar replacing Crooks when required and Holt/Forrester replacing Windass when required.
EastEnclosureBear 2,894
His imagination, his off the ball work, dragging defenders with him wide creating space. He keeps our tempo high as the ball comes through midfield to attack. Very underrated as said.
Prso's headband 34,990
When I watch Holt I find it so surprising the amount of times there isn't a player within 10 yards of him, considering every team has 10 behind the ball it is remarkable the space he creates for himself. It gives him the edge because when he receives the ball he knows where hes playing it and has the advantage to run at the defence for the pass back. Sadly I can't see him playing, infact I'd be very surprised if he gets regular game time, which is a problem that lies at the managers door if that is the case. harry handsome 629
Holt runs in behind the defenders which can turn the whole defence back to face their own goal, hard to defend facing the wrong way.

He can play holding mid and a number 10, very comfortable on the ball supposedly.
cumnockbear 2,446
He's a massive miss in Midfield, for a very small guy his reading of the game, his energy, attacking prowess, his ability to pick a pass and open up a defence is better than anything we have to offer in the squad. Teddybear123 215
His movement is definitely his best attribute, couple this with a passer (barton/niko) and a dribbler (windass/forrester) and we're onto a winner. this is why I think our best two midfield combinations are rossiter niko windass/holt or barton holt windass
