derekweir29 505
JOEY BARTON has today been suspended by the club and will not return to Ibrox or Auchenhowie for a period of three weeks. The manager, Mark Warburton, and club believe that time and space is required for both the club and the player to assess all that has happened. Neither party will make any further statement or comment on this issue. http://rangers.co.uk/news/headlines/club-statement-65/
SeparateEntityMyArse 53,714
One week for the incident, another for the tweet, and another for the talksport stuff imo. He'll walk.
Bydo 3,215
He's played his last game for us. He won't be able to keep his mouth shut for three weeks, and will get sacked.

Here's hoping.

jbm26896 995
Very difficult to sack anyone without it becoming a legal case, employment law is a minefield and the club are doing the right thing by suspending him for 3 weeks gives them time to consult lawyers etc.. Cobham 1,569
Even if he comes back, 3 weeks without training with us, a week or two to get back up to speed and work his way back in, likelyhood is that even if he does return we probably won't see him for 5/6 weeks. By which time I hope Rossiter, Crooks, Windass, Holt, Forrester and Halliday have the midfield ticking along nicely!
SeparateEntityMyArse 53,714
Gives Rossiter Crooks or Halliday the time to make us forget about him on the pitch ?

weeto 112
They should fire him. Why the club thought we needed a 34 year old loudmouth ned who has been a nightmare at ever club he has been at, I'll never know.

superally07 387
Shambles. We are a joke of a club right now on and off the park. Now we gave three more weeks of distraction and no word of what actually happened so it just let's people make speculation. He should of apologised today , everyone kiss n make up and get on with the actual important thing which is to fucking win games, or been sacked today. Letting it drag on is unbelievable. Captain Hilts 12,819
It's possible they don't have grounds to sack him and need more time to assess the situation. All this will do however is create a major distraction for a further 3 weeks when we should be putting our full focus on getting our season back on track. Also the fact that this is the first official statement we've heard from the club on this matter 6 days after the story broke is a disgrace. ianferguson 2,619
This matter should have been put to bed today. If he needed disciplined then it should have been a large fine. This will now hang over us for weeks while Bartons fitness declines even more and therefore everybody loses. This makes Warburton and Rangers look weak and indecisive and will only be a distraction to everyone and put more pressure on Warburton. My only other conclusion is that we want to get rid of him but can't afford it.
Ross-Gazza genius 1,907
When leaving he was asked by a reporter "are you still a rangers player" his reply was "I think so, I'm not allowed to comment". If he's unsure of his position then I wonder if the suspension is for time to take legal action and rip up his contract.

Billy1984 6,314
After his great season on and off the pitch at burnley last season I never saw this kind of thing happening with us. Can't see him playing for us again. What a let down

Captain Hilts 12,819
A good point from that statement though is that it states "neither party will comment further". They've made it clear that Barton should keep his trap shut over his suspension period. Any breach of this he will definitely be a gonner. SeparateEntityMyArse 53,714
Actually think this is a strong, professional approach. If we'd sacked him we'd end up in a tribunal (likely losing). And folk like me would be slating the Board ?. Think this protects us, will help the squad unity, and will ultimately lead to Barton walking away.
