In an earlier version of this story on the heraldscotland site yesterday it was suggested that Joey Barton, who has been suspended by Rangers Football Club, could take action against the club in a tribunal on grounds of religious discrimination. Rangers has no truck with discrimination on religious or any other grounds and we apologise for the suggestion causing offence to the club and its supporters.

Fuck their apology they know fine well what they were doing i.e plant the seed for the maniacs in cyberspace, just long enough so they can withdraw and the obsessed wean rapers already have the ball rolling and passing it off as fact doing as much as possible to damage the Rangers brand.

Seen this way too often since 2012 in this country.

Just wish the club would finally get wise to it instead of sucking up the arses of everycunt in Scotland who's the opposite of a Rangers supporter.

Why would they print such a ridiculous story in the first place?

Why is it every day there are items in the Scottish papers and online where they do their utmost to drag the Rangers name into the dirt without a shed of intelligence, proof or dignity. Terrorists get better press in this country than we do.

I assume the club got right on to this and the rag was forced to withdraw the fabrication in the face of legal action.

What KAI said, once you publish something it's out there and it's in the heads of idiots.

The retraction is never comparable in its profile to the impact the bullshit story had in the first place.

That's a pitifully mealy-mouthed excuse of an apology.

They gave a platform to a legal professional who suggested that Barton should lie, potentially in court, to gain an unfair advantage and thereby attain an unmerited financial reward.

Surely that's a breach of ethics tor those who practice the law as their profession.

It's also morally questionable for a journalist and newspaper to give a platform to encouragement to breach legal ethics and possibly the law.

There are about three parties that should be making apologies to the Club in relation to this abomination of an article and that's not even counting Barton.

So does that mean if you say bad words that the pc mob find offensive all you have to do is say sorry and everything is fine and it's all forgotten? Fucking scumbag bastards. An apology is not good enough.

That's what the Kafflik religion allows. Kill someone then go in the wee box and say sorry to the dirty bheast and all is good.

That's basically how it works. Im sure there are many , including this one , that already have their apologies at the ready , knowing that the damage of ' sowing the seed ' is well worth their hassle .

About time Rangers bypassed the apology stage and went straight to the courts to seek damages against their brand .

Gerry Braiden, Local Government Correspondent

So he comes out of his specialist area that's designated by his job title to write an article on a football Club and player involved in a possible contractual breach to give a platform to someone suggesting that the player should act in a manner that has a shocking lack of professional integrity and may even breach the law, such that an apology and retraction has to be printed, and the editor OK'd it? Apparently having a go at Rangers, besmirching its reputation and promoting the potential defrauding of the Club is sufficient justification to merit a journalist delving into an area outwith his remit, possibly opening up the paper to legal action. Think about that. They breached professional integrity to legally endanger their employer, all to pursue their own personal agenda in relation to a sports team they dislike. Priorities, eh? Professionalism, eh? Integrity, eh?

So, that editor will be a fourth party that owes us an apology.

Notably, it's the only faceless organisation that's made the apology and that not one of the actual individuals involved has had the spine or character to stand up and personally apologise for such a crass catastrophe of moral judgement.

Its an old printed press trick. Once its out there,no matter how fanciful or how many lies are told,it becomes fact. The editor knew exactly what they were doing allowing the story to be printed.  Sure, the apology is in the next days paper, but who in the future is going to go to the next days paper when researching to see if an apology is printed? The club should seek punitive damages as it's bringing the clubs name into disrepute
