Dont know about lace but IT certainly has netting round IT, used to hate those balls growing up been knocked out by an undubbined ball IN the rain a couple of times. Wintergreen on the legs and that cold you could tie your boots. Kids have it all nowadays. they did get heavy if not properly dubbin up. It gif you got hitt worse for a while when the hard orange plastic balls came In, If they hit your legs when It was freezing you wished the leather baw was still available, or IF you got smacked with a fly away ball that used to sting like being slapped. Used to hate wintergreen as the smell was there for days and when you had your weekly bath whether you needed It or not used to set It off again. Fans always try to compare the quality of different players across generations. Almost impossible to do due to changes in the game. However, would be an interesting experiment to have a game (say the European Super Cup) played using a ball from the 50s / 60s. How would the likes of Messi or Ronaldo cope with the old type ball.
