MARK Warburton, the Rangers manager, last night revealed he is trying to bring in an "outstanding pedigree" midfielder on loan during the January transfer window who he believes will “excite the fans”.

The Englishman, whose team was knocked off second spot in the Ladbrokes Premiership with their 2-0 defeat to Hearts at Tynecastle on Wednesday night, is missing several players in that area.

Niko Kranjcar, Jordan Rossiter and Josh Windass are all out injured at the moment while Joey Barton left the Ibrox club last month.

Lad we're after is Diego Fabbrini

Birmingham City are reportedly preparing to offload bit part player Diego Fabbrini.

Scottish giants Rangers are among the clubs Blues have offered Fabbrini to, according to our sister title, the Mirror.

Fabbrini's career at Blues has stalled since he arrived on a permanent basis from Watford for a fee of £1.5 million in January.

Despite being the club's most expensive player for some time, Fabbrini has struggled to make it into Gary Rowett's first XI on a regular basis.

Fabbrini has made just one start and four substitute appearances in the Championship so far this season with Rowett preferring to play without a No.10 or to use Che Adams in that role.

The 26-year-old has two-and-a-half years left on his contract.

The report in the Mirror claims Blues are now ready to listen to bids for the midfielder and have been offering him to clubs including SPL giants Rangers.

On the subject of Fabbrini today, our Birmingham City writer Brian Dick wrote: "It could be that he might feel he needs to go somewhere to find more regular first team football.

"It was only last January that Blues laid out their highest fee for five years but since then the Italian has made just eight Championship starts.

"Much will depend on how desperately Fabbrini wants to fight for a place at Blues - and who, if anyone, comes in for him."
