Will winning the league be enough for you this year?

Recommended Posts

Given that we have an improved standard of opposition, including two recently relegated "big guns" from the top tier, is winning the league enough for people to say "Ally's had a decent season."?

If not, what will it take to be deemed satisfactory and justify his position?

Promotion is everything this season cups are well down the list of priorities, should've won the Ramsdens at least once last couple of seasons but didn't, so I don't expect McCoist to take any brave pills this season in any cup! Although to be fair he did serve his apprenticeship under Wattie specialising in cup games so maybe he'll prove me wrong !

Nope. The Ramsdens is a must this year and I'm expecting to win either the League Cup or the Scottish Cup aswell.

My views exactly. Ally has the second biggest budget in the country. He's got a team of SPL players. We should easily walk the league and 1:2 cups.

Well I can't believe that some of us are demanding cup success. On paper and with our budget then yeah we should be getting to finals and winning but that's the nature of football- it just doesn't happen like that or else your man city's and Chelsea's Madrid etc would always win cups and leagues every year but its impossible. Let's not go down the aye but part time teams pish because by the law of averages not losing a game is extremely unlikely

The league is the real necessity. It's arguably the most important league season in our history.

It would be disappointing not to win the Petrofac Cup once out of our three attempts. (After the State Aid investigation that, in the interests of sporting integrity, demotes any club receiving unfair assistance from the State, a certain bunch could have more wins in this competition than us one day!)

I would hope for a decent showing in the two big cups. If we go out (whenever) then only to teams that are playing well.

And I hope to see us playing like we are ready for the last step up and not need major surgery on the team next June/July.

I'd settle for the league and seeing us play some entertaining, attacking football in at least 50% of our games. That would be a huge step up on the last two seasons.

I wouldn't trade the title for entertaining football but I would trade the cups.

Achieving a consistent average of acceptable performances reflecting our squad strength is a must for me. I am less concerned about winning cups, but will be sorely disappointed if we do not at least give a good account of ourselves in those competitions.

If we are to topple ceptic from their perch then we must rediscover the fighting spirit that won us three in a row under Walter Smith. When we went down to nine men against St Mirren I still believed we could win it; to have that confidence again.

No from me too.

We must be firm favourites for the Petrofac Cup , as we have been for the two seasons previously. As much as it's pretty insignificant , what it does tell us is how equipped we are in dealing in cut throat situations instead of relying on ' averages ' over a season , where our resources give us a big advantage. If Ally wants to prove his doubters wrong , then this is a ' must ' .

I don't , realistically expect to win the League or Scottish Cup . I think that may be a step too far at this stage , but nor do I expect to be beaten by a lower division team , nor half the premier league teams should the game be at Ibrox.

As others have said though , the league is a priority , and there should be no excuses for failing in that , with the players we have at our disposal.
