philiprfc 1,799
Andrew Johnson won Crystal Palace player of the year in 2004 and in 2005... And he was Everton's most expensive transfer when he moved...

AGM_72 3,604
Saying that, Shorey's never been a club record transfer. Nor has he been managed by any particular greats.Andy Johnson seems the most likely now to me.
Papa Sasac 164
Danny Murphy signed for Fulham on the 31st August 2007- "What We Know from the article on 27 August: He once successfully completed a transfer on deadline day."Played with Di Canio at Charlton from what I can tell. Also has two children with his current wife, one a daughter.Looks pretty likely. caseyjones 3,009
Is it inconceivable that this column is written by a Guardian staffer and no professional footballers are involved?
blueboy94 54
Is it inconceivable that this column is written by a Guardian staffer and no professional footballers are involved? Some journo with a few contacts within the game. No pro footballer would consider doing something like this while still being at a top level. It would put their whole career in jeopardy. Plus with twitter and such we would have found out who it was by now if it was a footballer.Myth = Busted.
blueboy94 54
Even if it is a pro footballer I think most of the 'facts' about his career are bullshit, mainly to throw people off the trail.
