That reminds me of Albert Craig's dive that got Roberts sent off in the infamous '87 Cup defeat to Accies, that ended Woods world record of consecutive minutes without conceding a goal.

I looked up wikipedia and found some good news about that diving tim bast*rd....

Off the pitch, Craig received a twelve-month prison sentence in July 2005 after admitting stealing over £40,000 from the Royal Mail in a postal fraud.[1]

Gambling shame of former player

Jul 6 2005 By Paul Mcmillan, The Evening Chronicle

Fallen former Toon star Albert Craig was jailed for 12 months after stealing more than £40,000.

Craig, who started to deliver mail after hanging up his boots, stole the cash from delivery vans at the office in Glasgow.

The former midfielder, signed by Willie McFaul in 1987, confessed to the theft to fund his chronic gambling problem.

His lawyer claimed the incident was "tragic" and asked for him to be spared jail.

But Sheriff Michael O'Grady QC told him: "There is the substantial amount of money involved and what was a considerable breach of trust."

The theft spree was a fall from grace for Craig, who played for Newcastle in the 1980s and 90s. His pals include former England and Newcastle favourite Peter Beardsley who was best man at his wedding.

Craig looked on the verge of tears as he led away to begin his jail-term.

The 43 year-old had been employed as a delivery driver in Glasgow and two years ago Royal Mail bosses discovered

more than £137,000 had gone missing from vans holding money.

On December 1, another bag containing £25,650 was reported stolen.

CCTV footage showed Craig loitering nearby despite having no reason to be there.

The court heard suspicions centred on Craig and during one shift he was spotted spending three hours at a casino.

Later that month, the ex-footballer was caught on hidden camera in a van - even though he should have been making another delivery.

Craig tried to save face by handing back £18,000 he had hidden in a bin behind a Chinese takeaway.

Officers later discovered the cash had fuelled his gambling problems that included spending £69,500 at a casino a year and running up losses of £21,000.

The dad-of-two pled guilty to stealing a total of £42,250 at a court appearance last month.

Sheriff O'Grady was yesterday handed a clutch of references in support of Craig.

Kenny Sinclair, defending, argued against jail claiming Craig could pay back the remainder of the money.
