David Templeton changed the course of the game when he came on at half-time against Queen of the South. Within a minute of the action getting underway again, he had scored an absolute screamer to level the match. Ally McCoist's side did not look back from that moment on.

Goals from Bilel Mohnsi and Kenny Miller meant the match finished 4-2 and ensured the home team sewed up all three points. It was not the first time the introduction of the former Hearts player had pulled Rangers back into the game.

Indeed, he did so in the opening game of the 2014/15 campaign against Hibs in the Petrofac Training Cup last month. Yet the 25-year-old is frequently disappointing when he starts. He was dropped from the first team last week after struggling to impress.

It is time for McCoist to start utilising Templeton as an impact player. It is clearly the role to which he is best suited.

What a waste it would be if David Templeton was left on the Rangers substitutes' bench every wEek.

The winger is, as we saw against Queen of the South at Ibrox on Saturday, one of the most skilful players the Gers have.

His strike early in the second half against the second-placed side in the SPFL Championship will be one of the goals of the season. Sure, if his form dips, as it had done in recent weeks, then he does not deserve to get a start. But if he is fit and is playing well then he should definitely be in the starting line-up. He is the sort of player that fans pay to see.

Anyway, wouldn't it be demoralising and demotivating for the boy if he was left out of the side when he was on top of his game?

That could lead to his head going down and him losing interest. I would advise against utilising him as an impact player in the future

Nope...he's a winger and inconsistent which most usually are. I would actually play Templeton every game where fit as the bits of magic he can produce out of nowhere can change the course of a game.

Problem is the longer he is on the more kicks he gets - and the more he is out - I know part of a wingers job is to 'take a tackle' but Templeton takes a lot with less protection from referees than I would like - deserves to start but needs to be fully fit to start but he gets injured a lot!

Nope, he should be played every week. Our only genuine talented player capable of linking midfield to attack. Inconsistent - aye. But i'd rather watch templeton take on the defender 50 times a game and it come off twice than watch any other of our "wide men," never take on a defender or have the ability to do so.

Yes. He is much more effective coming off the bench than he is starting games. His injury proneness is another reason why it's a better idea not to play him for 90 minutes every game.
