Where Is Calum Gallagher?

Obviously we don't know what goes on in training maybe the boy isn't doing enough we won't know..he looked the part the few run outs he got under McCoist right enough ..sometimes we see a couple of good performances from a young player and we big them up when really they don't end up doing much for one reason or another ..john fleck for example looked brilliant then looked a terrible player ..Crawford when he first came in looked good now looks a terrible player add to that aird etc ..yes could be down to bad coaching aswell but you see where I'm going with Gallagher the boy just might not have it ..I might be wrong

Fair enough reasoning there. Given his performances last season, on loan at Cowden and in the U20 side I think there's a decent player for the level we are currently at. He might not carve out a long term career with us, like many before him, but with the performances we've seen recently we could do much worse than give the boy a cameo from the bench.

If he's not up to scratch then I'd expect/hope to see him let go shortly.

You could just about understand it if our strikers were firing on all cylinders and he couldn't force his way in a result, but as you point out in your article (another very good piece BTW) they aren't.

I'm sure we discussed Gallagher around about Christmas time and we both agreed that we hoped he would play a role in the second half of the season and yet here we are four months on and he's not had a sniff.

It's utterly bizzare that a guy who's only played ten games on loan but has still only been outscored in the league by Miller, Law, Clark & Vuckic can't get an opportunity to stake a claim.

yes the least he deserves is a place on the bench going by what we are seeing up top at the moment

In the last few away games in particular I really think he'd have had a big impact. He's not afraid to chase back and offer protection to the full back, which has been somewhere we've struggled, and some of the others don't fancy putting that work in or don't have the stamina and positional awareness to do so.

We did indeed have that discussion. Gallagher looked to be the one at the head of the queue to come in to thd first team squad and while Murdoch has done very well since coming in I think henwas a wee bit off the radar due to Macleod being shunted outside.

Cheers. Glad you're enjoying them so far. I'm doing ok, I think, for having left school with little qualifications and having no formal journalistic training etc.

Its a strange situation seeing he scores consistently at this level, also it seems he is scoring and playing well at u20's, when he played for the 1st team last season the few chances he was given he looked the part so much so he looked head and shoulders above Aird,McKay and even Templeman.

Agreed, from what I've seen of the two of them, Gallagher looks the better prospect.

Definitely. Not that I'm slating Hardie, he's still young and has potential but Gallagher certainly looks the better of the two

I don't understand why he isn't even making the bench.

I worked with a boy last year at Ibrox who's good mates with him, said he wanted to leave as he didn't think he'd ever have any luck under Ally. Maybe he's got a bad attitude in training?

Who knows, i've always found it confusing given the striker situation though.

I dont ubderstand why we just didnt keep him out on loan if we werent going to play him. He scored 5 in 10 for Cowden which is good going, who knows how much he would have now. He would also progress better being out on loan playing in this league than for the U20's.

our potency upfront of late has been dire. McCall seems to have settled for Miller and Clark with boy coming on at 60 if things have gone pear shaped.

Now while I have no problem about Clark and Miller as each has contributed in some way to the collective efforts of the team, I can't say the same for Boyd. he looks more like a darts player than a professional footballer. Even if he was incredibly unfit but could still bang in the goals you could argue his place was merited (as many did in his first Rangers spell where he contributed little other than the goals but that's what a striker is there to do). This is why I can't understand McCalls persistence with Boyd when he has 3 league goals to his name whilst Gallagher has 5 and scored them for Cowdenbeath. Based on the facts it would appear Gallagher should be at least on the bench, and going by McCalls original statement that under performers are dropped that should be the case, so that must mean there is something we don't know that results in Gallagher not being selected.

It's frustrating not knowing as I feel someone like Gallagher who runs at players, clearly has an eye for goal and has played well for us in the past is being overlooked.

Boyd's nothing like most professional dart players as they are not as fat, plus they can consistently hit very small target areas on the board from nearly 8ft away, Boyd on the other hand cant hit a target area of 8yds x 2yds2ft when stood a yard away, the guys a pudding past his sell buy date.

I think he is a good young player and he should get a chance but for fucks sake not wide give him a run up front

I think his tracking back and willingness to close play down would be more suited wide. As far as I know played most of his games at Cowden wide right and has played there in his limited appearances here.

Good piece.

I think it may just be down to circumstances more than anything else.

For whatever reason SMcC has picked Murdoch ,Walsh and Hardie for his team over Gallagher and to be fair to them , they've taken their chance and haven't disappointed .

Had we meaningless games coming up , I'm sure we'd see a lot more of Gallagher (and maybe one or two others ) , but every game , from now on , is literally a cup final and I'm sure SMcC wouldn't want to deviate too much from his settled team.

Looks like Hardie took his chance well enough yesterday. What people aren't seeing is if CG is doing enough every day in training whereas McCall does, one thing that he's proven is that if your doing enough you'll get your chance, maybe CG isn't doing enough.

Good piece, he's a boy I've consistently moaned about not getting a chance on here, I don't think attitiude can be questioned as he sacked a holiday with the boys to work hard in the gym over the summer as Ally had promoted him to the first team(then loaned him out). He went on loan and again showed his desire.

May as well fling another brain fart in, it's possible he's stated he wants to leave due to the lack of opportunities so McCall has put him to the back of the queue.

That's a guess, not a rumour though.

Other than that, I guess McCall rates the others higher.

His strength and pace make him the ideal striker for us Imo would like to see him and young Hsrdie get a run together
