Back To The Drawing Board For Mw

MW has said he's going back to the drawing board after the hivs win so after DM and MZ leaving are we about to bring in another CB?

I think so and I'm not convinced so far but maybe an established CB coming in will make the defence better as each CB will know that their place in the team isn't a given every week.

Im not convinced we need another CB, especially at this level. What we need is to allow the current first choice pairing to play more games together. We have the loan boy at CB and I'd like an academy player as 4th choice backup to gain some experience in the first team squad.

Too many fans are getting on players backs early in the season when in reality its almost a brand new starting 11 who need time to gel.

If money is to be spent I'd much prefer a striker to be brought in. Warburton does seem to rate Miller and Clark though so they may well get the benefit of the doubt to perform until January.

Much prefer to see a striker brought in. I'm not too bothered right away, I'm sure others will come during the January window. Hopefully we'll be doing really well and all the guys that are here right now spread the message that we are a great club to join.

Wilson, Ball & Kiernan are all good CB's, more than capable of playing for us in this league. It's just if we lost 2 or maybe even 3 of them for one match we'd be humped.

I think our number one target should be a striker though, Waghorn is a class-act but I think he's more of a creator rather than a finisher

Defensive central midfielder to sit in front of the back 4 would be my first signing which I'm assuming will be why we are trying so hard to get Eustace fit. A penalty box striker would be next on my shopping list.

Warburton's interview seemed to say he prefers players who can play anywhere across the 7,9,10,11 positions so a guy who can only play number 9 or a poacher for example isn't likely to come in by my reckoning. We have Ball as cover for centre back and Warburton has said he wants a lean and hungry squad so with Eustace coming in I think that might be our dealings done unless there is someone who can really make us better that becomes available.

Think we can do better than templeton, shiels and clark imo. We have the Tottenham lad taking over Templeton's position, Zelalem possibly taking over Shiels position and I'd like a quality striker in to replace Clark to give Waghorn competition. Waghorn can also do a job on the right.

Fit, young, hungry, lean squad. Perhaps MW is happy to go with the 3 CBs we have in Wilson, Ball and Kiernan and won't be afraid to call Ross McCrorie or Tom Lang up to the squad who both highly regarded youth prospects.

Would use the wages from McGregor and Zal to bring in a striker and perhaps even a wingback for either side as that's where the squad is pretty vulnerable.

People keep going on about using players who leave wages to bring in others.

Do these folk think that these players leaving frees up money or something?

The players have contracts that need to be paid in full or come to an agreement that they are happy to take a little less to leave. This doesn't free up money. Only selling players does this.

I'm fairly certain we've reached agreements with them that suit us. We won't be paying their wages in full, hence why it frees up wages

You can be guaranteed that the mutual consent is that Rangers will pay a fraction of their current salary until such time as they find another club, so the likes of McGregor will be completely off the wage bill.

I can't wait until the transfer window closes. If Eustace come on board, we have more than an adequate squad. Shields & Clark are going no where, they are important parts of this squad and no one will take Templeton whilst he is injured. I do agree with releasing McGregor & Zaliukas. I wanted Vukic but there are numerous reasons why that didn't happen. MW hasn't put a foot wrong so far.

I would have thought that MW had considered his options at CB before releasing DM and MZ. He is either comfortable that he has enough already on the books or very confident of bringing in another CB.

I suspect it is the first option.

I recently said on 2 different threads that at the moment Zaliukas would be going nowhere because we would need him as cover as our left sided central defender if Wilson or Wallace is unavailable, as at the time it seemed as if both Kiernan and Ball would be the 2 players used to slot in as right sided central defenders,

No sooner I said that than Warburton rests Wilson, moves Kiernan over left and brings in Ball to the right, then states that he doesn't want players who can only play in one particular position and that players must be able to play right - left - centre in the system.

That being the case,I can't see him bring in another central defender, at least not in this current transfer window. I must admit to being a bit surprised at him letting both McGregor and Zaliukas go at the same time but he must have confidence in a couple of the youth players that they can step up to the plate.
