What utter tosh

What's tosh about it?

Do you imagine nobody teams like Wigan or Hull would be full of international players if it were not for the silly money pumped into the EPL by SKY.

Scottish football has fallen so far behind because of SKY unless you think it a coincidence that not so long ago it was a lot closer in standard

Money talks

Money talks

Scottish football has fallen behind because of the shortsightedness of Scottish football clubs and the Scottish governing body. Sky are a business and will invest in something they can sell.

Sky and BT Sport will pay the Premier League £5.136bn to share live TV rights for three seasons from 2016-17.

Sky have been granted five of the seven match packages on offer, including the first Friday evening games and both Sunday packages.

Under the contract, which represents a 70% increase on Sky and BT's current deal , 168 games will be shown live, at an average cost of £10.2m.

Sky paid £4.176bn for 126 matches per season and BT £960m for 42 games.

Premier League chief executive Richard Scudamore said he had given no thought to the overseas rights for the same period, which have not yet been sold.

"Burnley are bigger economically than Ajax, which says a lot about how our league is made up," he said.

"Clubs will have to address ticket prices to make sure the stadia remain full. Maybe there will be increased hard work for the clubs."

Former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher said on Twitter: "The amounts involved in ticket pricing, especially for away fans, has to change."

Fuck sake

It's an absolute embarrassment what they get now compared to Scottish football. I don't expect to get anywhere near that, but I'd at least expect a fair representation of what we bring to the table.

If you actually look at the numbers in terms of viewership, we receive the most viewers of all the smaller leagues in Europe, yet we receive the lowest return in TV rights. We do pretty well in that regard considering that our games are rarely advertised and often stuffed away on SS4.

It gets real interesting when you start to look at CL figures, last year that mhob received more viewers each week than any of the other EPL teams except Man UTD. That just goes to show that there is still a demand to watch Scottish teams.

All in all, it just goes to show the utter cunt of a job that both Regan and Doncaster are doing. They two have single handily killed Scottish football over the years they have been in power.

Just a wee side note: The Friday night EPL games are nothing more than SKY spitting in the face of Scottish football, that was the only night we had without having to go against EPL games.

I honestly thought I was hearing things on the news but they are paying £10.2million a game?

Fuck me that is obscene money per game, what kinda money will sky and bt subscribers have to pay as of 2016.

If scottish subscribers make up about the same percentage per population then the spfl should get about 8% of this figure. That would give each premier league team about 11 millions per year (if split evenly). With this investment, scottish football gets better in terms of quality and becomes more watchable.

Will never happen for us up here but it is unfair that we put money in and don't get guck all back for our teams.

No way Sky are getting good value from this, imo they've overpaid by a fair bit (last deal was £3bn). Although the fact they've lost the Champions League from next season to BT means they always were going to be very aggressive in trying to retain the Premier League rights, if Sky lost the rights, their value would plummet - they were always going to push the boat out to get the rights.

Per game they are getting terrible value out of this, Sky are paying just over £11m per match for the next 3 years, whereas BT are paying £7.6m.

Where BT really have won however is the Champions League and Europa League , they won the rigts to show 1050 matches over 3 years for £897m, working out at £854k per match!

One another note though, it's because of this that football is heading towards the need for a revenue sharing system, or salary cap.

Last season Cardiff and Fulham made more through TV rights than Valencia, Atletico, Bayern and Dortmund combined.

It'll be interesting to see just how much of a draw the Premier League is next season - because by all accounts BT has the better football now. As of next year:

BT:-

Premier League (Less games, but you can get highlights anywhere for this)

Bundesliga

Serie A

Ligue 1

Primeira Liga (Portugal)

MLS

Brazilian League

UEFA Champions League

UEFA Europa League

Scottish Games

Weekly Round Up Show, with access to highlights in every big league other than Spain.

Sky:-

Premier League (Most of the games that are live)

Football League

Capital One Cup

SPFL

Scottish Cup

Home Internationals

La Liga

Copa Del Rey

Eredivise

Lots of weekly round up shows, mostly based off Premier League - plus Revista de La Liga.

Basically Sky has become the home of domestic football, and other sports. While BT is the home of football. They're lucky that La Liga has been so exciting the past two seasons.

It's fucking laughable that Sky has just launched Sky Sports 5 as the European Football channel, when they're due to have the rights to 3 fucking competitions you could broadcast on there
