Soft Spot For English Side, And Why?

Recommended Posts

Not a top 4 side as most will support them, but any team you like for footballing reasons, family, other?

I am quite fond of west brom, come across as a proper footballing club, especially after hearing pulls speak about what they do behind the scenes, special manager dinners before games, the way he spoke about behrahino etc

Liverpool, my Dad used to go down to their games in the 70 & 80's, there would also be a lot of Liverpool fans who would come up to Ibrox, he still keeps in touch with them.

I've always liked them since I was wee, Gerrard is one of my footballing heroes

Scunthorpe.

bit random, Coca Cola were doing a promo thing to get a football league top of your choice for collecting x amount of tokens.

i had enough tokens and didnt have any use for them but i was reading Ian Bothams autobiography at the time and he mentions his time playing for Scunthorpe so i decided to get a Scunthorpe top instead of binning the tokens.

always look out for their results now, must be about 10/15 years ago i think.

I've had a soft spot for them since we loaned them Brighton and MacLean and our U21s played them in a friendly (tu) Also liked Hooper before he signed for the scum

Man City because my Grandad was working down there in the early 80's and he got talking to a few City Fans on the building site and they all said that Rangers were their favourite "other" Team. He went to a few games and got me a top and scarf. I thought I was mega cool running about Dennistoun with my City Top on whilst everyone at that time had a soft spot for Liverpool..

I went down to see my 1st City game at Maine Road in 82 they beat Watford 1-0 and went top of the League..Joe Corrigan got injured and a defender had to go in goals..They ended up getting relegated and went thru 6 or 7 managers in the 80's..Never a dull moment watching City..infact my Grandad thought either he or I was a jinx..for starting to follow them...

Made plenty of good friends down there and they are all Bears as well...Didn't manage down this Season but that will be sorted for next Season. Now I am working again..Happy Memories despite all the emotional rollercoasters having City as my 2nd Team..

Strange that they got all the cash and success when things were going tits up for my Rangers, probably kept me sane having something to celebrate tbh..

Carlisle United because my Granny and Grandad used to stay in Annan and I can remember going there in the car when I was down there. Heard them being read out on the classified results on the wireless when I was wee and have been following them ever since. Have soft spots for lots of other teams but Carlisle are the only team other than Rangers I'd say I support.

By that reckoning I believe I must hold the title of "Britain's Most Northerly Carlisle United Fan" unless any Cumbrians fancy moving to Shetland any time soon :uk:

I guessed Man United if any, loved when I was younger that a team so successful was managed by a Scot.

Loved the likes of Beckham, Scholes, Giggs (mainly because he had same first name as me), Cole, Yorke, Van Nistelrooy etc, always used to be engrossed in the Champions League nights at Old Trafford on ITV.

As I've got older I wouldn't say I'm a fanatic United fan, I like to see them do well but I don't have the affiliation I once did.

Mainly I like to see the teams and players who I enjoy to watch do well.
