Wigan Must Have Some Team......

A scouting network should be a given for a club this size but these acquisitions show you that a manager who keeps his eyes open helps as well.

Tavernier alone will pull back that fee.

I didn't realise until today that we have got 20 scouts attached to our youth academy

I wonder if any of the signings were based on the data found using the moneyball system at Brentford.

That was part of the reason MW left, because he doesn't agree with that 'model', probably more to do with his knowledge of the game down there and coming up against Wigan with Brentford last year.

It just you that if you have an eye for a player that you can bag a bargain or two.

Tav has all the assuredness and composure of a guy schooled at a top EPL outfit. Kinda like a right sided Ashley Cole.

If he keeps playing like he is he will be back to England. I hope all these guys get a move to epl as that will mean we are doing well.

We couldnt give any of the diddies away we had last year.

Without a scouting network we are obviously relying on recommendations or players the staff already know of are aware of so I wouldn't be surprised if Uwe Rosler recommended Tav & Waghorn to Warburton.

Warburton was Rosler's DOF at Brentford and Rosler signed both of them for Wigan when he was there.

I'd hope though that he has desire to win titles and compete in europe. As it stands we are the club that can give him that chance. A move to the EPL from us will be to a mid tabled club at best.

Don't think they are directly employed by Rangers though, is it not similar to what Porto do, they have more than 250 scouts working for them but not actually employed by them.

Not sure exactly how it works but I remember reading an article on it a while back.

I think he does agree with the Moneyball system but Brentford wanted to use it solely as their basis for recruitment whereas Warburton uses it along with other things including traditional scouting.

Assuming that John Eustace signs I think MW will want to secure on loan a fast forward.

Probably has someone in mind already.

I really don't see the need. We already have a fast forward at the club in Clark. Sure, he needs to work on a few things, but I'd rather we gave him a chance to prove himself under the new management than use a player who isn't permanently ours.

Chances are that they won't get a huge amount of game time anyway because Waghorn will be the regular starter.

That's really surprising tbh. You any idea whether that's a recent thing?

To be honest mate, I haven't a clue, because it was a bit of a surprise for me. I don't know if they are employed by Rangers directly or by the Academy on a commission basis. Craig Mulholland came in late last year when Sinclair was replaced by the old board, so perhaps he had something to do with it.

I have just said that in reply to bbb, mate! I think the youth academy could be independent to the senior side of the club, but I wouldn't say for certain. I don't think we have a scouting system for senior players because this was one of the major points that Dave King made when the new board was put in place.

Goals win games and I think we need one more up top. Clark misses too many chances. Need someone who will score more often.

Boy I work with has been doing it for a while, worked under Sinclair so it's at least two years old.

If was you or i we would likely stay. But these boys arent fans they are professionals and will ultimately do whats best for their livelihood.

I think we will be a stepping stone for some of them. Pretty sure it would be amazing to play in front of 40k fans every other week and potentially Champs League.

Not trying to be a debbie downer here but i will enjoy the good players and manager whilst they are here. And hopefully come the day they leave us the infrastructure will be there to allow us to continue building towards being a greater force than we were before.
