Khalid Boulahrouz's daughter dies.

Recommended Posts

Just heard it on Radio Nederlands. Apparently Anissa was born prematurely, due to complications in the pregnancy. The player was rushed to the hospital with a police escort to be with his wife.

Today's normal press conference has been cancelled but Marco van Basten and captain Edwin van der Sar will meet the press later to make a statement. It is not yet known whether he will return to the squad or stay with his wife.

Very sad news.

Our thoughts are with the family.

It has just been announced that he will return to the squad.

4 months premature, if I heard correctly.

He said via van der Sar, he went to the Euro Championships with a goal and now it's even more important as a tribute.

Sorry if I seem harsh here, but I am very saddened by his returning to the squad.

He seems to be proving Shankley right here.

And his wife needs him a lot fucking more than a football team does.

His daughter's just died and he's back to the Euros?

I intially thought the same way.

However he's obviously spoke to his wife about it, and they must see it as some sort of tribute??

I can't see how tbh. HIs family and wife need him. Even if she insisted he go, he should have stayed anyway.

And even MVB should be telling him to stay with her/them.

I know it's ultimately the player's choice, but my goodness he seems to have made a really bad decision.

In a sense though, I can kinda understand why - grief completely skews your judgement. When you're grieving a loss, you make some really bad decisions. I'd know.
