No Orange shirt

Recommended Posts

In my lifetime, I've only ever owned and known us to have one orange jersey. I just can't imagine us ever considering it again.

We have had 2 though unless you were born in the late 90s / early 00s.

Rangers away kit 2002-2003

Despite being a massive hit with the club’s supporters, selling over 300,000 shirts, the Rangers 'tangerine' third kit was infamously dropped by the club in October 2002 after criticism from anti-sectarian campaigners and politicians.

Rangers were accused of cashing in on the association between the colour orange and its link to certain elements in Northern Ireland. Lib Dem MSP Donald Gorrie said of the strip at the time: “It was a mistake on the part of Rangers to introduce it”.

Anti-bigotry campaigners Nil By Mouth also made their feelings clear by saying: “The orange strip has been seen by many as contradictory of the good work done by Rangers in recent times against sectarianism.”

After dropping the kit, Rangers maintained that the decision was purely a commercial one.

In bigoted wee Scotland, a colour is portrayed as sectarian.

It got worn against Kilmarnock in December. Then we had to wear the white away kit when needed.

That's fucking pathetic. Why do these folk feel the need to complain about things and interfere in others' business? Power hungry wankers.
