A charity has been bombarded with complaints over allegations a senior staff member sent out sectarian tweets.

Social media has been awash with allegations that a Celtic-supporter at the organisation has been sending messages – using a pseudonym – referring to Rangers fans as "H***", "zombies" and "monkeys."

The word h** – a derogatory term used against Rangers supporters – is outlawed at Celtic Park.

It has resulted in the group's chief executive's work email account being bombarded with abusive messages – after his address was posted on a popular Rangers fans' forum.

The holder the account at the centre of the controversy tweeted: "'There's only 1 Paul Guidetti, he puts the ball in the netty, he's the super Swede, the H*** are deid.' Magic".

In another, in reference to Rangers' demise from top-flight football, they relate the club's fans to born again "Zombies" who are little better than "monkeys".

"Monkeys all over the world are up in arms after being compared to Glasgow's newest club," reads the tweet.

The charity asks in its job vacancies for people to be of high moral worth and that they will "Ensure your actions promote and value equality, diversity, rights and responsibility along with supporting the maintenance of all policies and procedures...".

Its chief executive told TFN that although the allegations had yet to be substantiated, if proven the charity would take action.

"We absolutely reject all forms of sectarian and offensive language," he said.

"However because a group mounts a campaign like this we can't be led by it; we have to follow due process.

"At present this remains an allegation from a supporters' group.

"People have to go through the correct complaints procedure and not mount what appears to be a witch-hunt.

"We have policies in place and will follow our own procedures and investigate.

"If it can be traced to this individual, if it can be proven, then we will take decisive action.

"I reiterate, however, that these are currently allegations and nothing has yet been proven."

A spokesperson for the fansite, which initially posted the allegations, told TFN: "We have it on good authority the person in question is an employee of a charity.

"At no stage have we mounted a witch-hunt. Our readers and others are rightly concerned a charity employee harbours sectarian views when it purports to helping some of society's most vulnerable."
