Dick Advocaat arrives

DICK ADVOCAAT has confirmed he will leave Sunderland at the end of the season – fuelling rumours of a return to Rangers.

The Dutchman is on the brink of leading the Wearsiders to EPL safety after a 0-0 draw against Leicester at the weekend leaving them three points ahead of the relegation zone with a game in hand.

They play Arsenal on Wednesday night but Advocaat has said it will be his penultimate game in hand.

It has been reported he promised his wife he would leave the Stadium of light at the end of this season – despite only joining in March.

Now speculation is growing he will come back to Scotland.

Advocaat enjoyed four trophy-laden years at Ibrox from 1998 winning two titles, two Scottish Cups and a League Cup.

Stuart McCall revealed on Friday the 67-year-old had recently visited him at Rangers.

It’s believed the Ibrox board want to appoint a director of footballer, with a younger manager underneath him.

McCall has insisted he wants to keep the job for next season but understands he will have to apply like everyone else.

The former midfielder led Rangers into a play-off semi-final showdown with Hibs after yesterday’s draw with Queen of the South gave them an aggregate win.

I think a director of football role at Rangers might suit Advocaat. I would love to see it happen. It would be more about sorting out the structure within the club and sorting out the youth set up and scouting etc than spending big money on players.

Obviously he would also be there to help out the head coach, whether it be McCall or whoever.

Got us playing the best football I've seen at Rangers in my lifetime. But he had funds and world class players at his disposal.

We now need someone to come in and develop a winning squad with youths, loanees, freebies and on a shoestring budget. This isnt Dick's style imo.

Thanks for the memories but its a No from me.

I seriously doubt he's coming back here but what a statement it would be if he did.

There's a downtrodden atmosphere around the club at the moment and if somebody with his CV, arrogance and presence came in it would give the club the shot in the arm it needs to drag itself out of it.

Why is it always ex-players, ex-managers ?

This parochial thinking has to stop (not sure if it's overly prominent anywhere other than in the media and on here, right enough).

We are a club screaming out for a complete over-haul and a new direction.

Hopefully King + co. make it happen.
