Bar ban for Hoops outcast

CELTIC outcast Derek Riordan has been hit by another sensational snub — after he was banned from EVERY nightclub in Scotland’s capital.

The 25-year-old striker — who can’t even get onto the Parkhead bench — has been ordered to stay away from 42 Edinburgh nightspots for TWO YEARS.

He was handed the city-wide exclusion order after allegedly abusing doormen at two different clubs.

Last night, a source said: “Derek looks to have pushed his luck too far and got into one too many scrapes.

“There is not a club in Edinburgh where he’ll be welcome.”

Riordan’s ban comes as part of the police-backed Unight crackdown — aimed at booting out troublemakers.

Anyone caught kicking off in a club which belongs to the zero-tolerance scheme is banished from them all.

The ex-Hibs star was originally handed a one-year ban in May after he was accused of clashing with stewards outside the city’s Berlin nightclub.

But that was doubled a few weeks later when he flouted the ban by trying to sneak into another club, Espionage.

Its manager Steven McLaren said: “Riordan managed to get into the club at about 11pm but one of the staff saw him and knew he was banned.

“Our stewards approached him to ask him to leave and got a mouthful of abuse. He was going on about how they thought they were ‘big men’ because they wanted him out.

“He left before he had to be ejected. We don’t want him in Espionage. I think we’re going to ban him for life.

“We stick very strictly to the Unight scheme for the protection of staff and customers.”

Riordan will have his photograph put on a database shared by all the nightspots.

More than 70 per cent of the clubs in Edinburgh have signed up to the scheme — with the rest set to follow.

PC Mark Pickavance, of Lothian and Borders Police, said: “Mr Riordan received a ban initially for being aggressive and abusive to staff at a nightclub in May.

“He didn’t take recognition of this ban when he tried to get into another club and this ban was extended.”

The Scotland international, who signed for the Hoops in June 2006, has been caught up in a series of controversial incidents in his hometown.

Last August, a court cleared him of involvement in a brawl outside Biddy Mulligan’s pub in December 2006.

In July 2005, Hibs star Steven Fletcher’s nose was broken after being hit with a bottle during a bust-up on night out at Bar 38 with several team-mates, including Riordan.

Eight months earlier, Riordan had been charged with breach of the peace after he was accused of shouting and swearing at police. But he was again found not guilty.

Last night, Riordan was not available for comment at his home in Airth, Perthshire.

But his gran May, of Granton, Edinburgh, said: “He’s a quiet lad and not a fighter.”

Celtic refused to comment last night, insisting it was a “personal matter”.

Lothian and Borders Police have no powers to enforce the ban under the Unight scheme, which it helped set up in October 2007.

Riordan’s agent Jim McArthur refused to comment.

Apparantelly its the same for boyd, not drugs, just off the pitch behaviour which is why he doesnt get a game much.

One of customers in here, who we supply cctv cameras too, has a setup in Karbon, Allegedly, Karbon asked his company to wipe their cctv records for a certain night, as Boyd was full of it and fighting.

Although, the guy who told me is a tim.

And you cant believe a word they say.
