Ibroxblue 122
If he stays injury-free.http://www.rangers.co.uk/news/headlines/item/7904-on-course-for-deal-extension
Straight-Edge-Loyal 6,651
He is a decent player so that is a good thing imo
simplythebest 11,453
Pretty daft clause imo
showtime69 514
it will be our luck that he will hit the 50% mark, get his new contract signed then stumble as he walks out Allys office and fuck his knee.
Ibroxblue 122
It seems a sensible clause to me though it obviously can't cut out the risk completely.
AlBear. 8,499
Pretty daft clause imoWhy?Instead of offering a 2 year deal, we added a clause to activate the second year. Seems a fairly smart, responsible clause for a player that has struggled with injuries in the past.

Why not offer every single player a 1 year deal so if they ever get injured we can just get rid? Plenty things to be concerned about, putting a clause in a players contract that rewards appearances is not one. If he plays over 50% of the games he will obviously be playing well, being a big part of the squad, so 1 year extension is fair enough in my eyes. In our position and with our manager's track record on signings I would be more comfortable with 1 year deals generally.

simplythebest 11,453
That's a silly question.Have we offered clauses like this in contracts before?I don't know but I do know we've had plenty of situations where shite and/or injury prone players are tied down to contracts and we have to pay them for basically doing nothing. This is 1 year contract with the opportunity of a 1 year extension, not a 4 year deal with the option for a 1 year extension.

He's been injured for a huge amount time in just over 2 seasons. Should his next deal be a 1 year deal because of the risk?
STEPPS BOY 73,142
Miller has same deal..
Terry_Hurlock 4
It seems a sensible clause to me though it obviously can't cut out the risk completely.Same with me and something Ally has done that is sensible ;-), especially with his injury history....but with any player you just dont know whats going to happen in the future - a bit extreme but did you see the Indian footballer who DIED after a goal celebration freak accident? Creampuff 22,628
It's a smart clause because the alternative would have been offering him a longer deal from the offset. The club have a horrid record with injury prone players, so I'm not sure why anyone is against this. Should his next deal be a 1 year deal because of the risk?If he's still looking injury prone at the end of his current long deal i'd say probably, he seems to be managing ok this season though. Wearethepeople72 1,844
Based on his performances this season, he definitely deserves an extension.
mabawsa 888
We have uninjured players sitting around doing feck all. That concerns me most on cost to the club. DMcG is realistic and he too has taken a chance so credit where credit is due I suppose.
legalbeagle 3,734
This seems like a more intelligent approach to signing players with a sketchy injury history than we have taken in the past, so I am cool with it.
Bluenose 1965 21
I'm not sure we've seen enough to consider McGregor more than a lower end SPL player. I doubt teams would be banging down his door to offer a bigger contract than we could offer.
