THE Rangers squad - bar two players - snubbed an end-of-season reception after their play-off capitulation at the hands of Motherwell, it has been revealed.

Goalies Steve Simonsen and Lee Robinson were the only two to make an appearance at the Ibrox bash, with the rest of the players collecting their cars and then leaving, according to reports.

The reception - thought to have been laid on by Paul Murray - had been planned to thank the squad for their efforts.

A source told The Sun: After the second leg of the play off final against Motherwell all of the players were invited to a reception in the Thornton Suite.

It was thought they could have said their farewells to the staff and Paul Murray, who had organised the get together, planned to thank them personally for their efforts and wish those who were leaving the best of luck in the future.

Really disappointing (if true) that the players didn't attend this.

I apologise most profusely.

Players not in the mood for a party after being hammered over 2 legs. Shock horror.

Paul Murray bringing out this story to try and counter the claims from the players that said they weren't told they were being released. Not buying it.

Even if this party was going to be used as some sort of farewell to those players then it is still unprofessional as fuck.

Hear what your saying, who would want to party after that drubbing, but win or lose we use to conduct ourselves in a certain manner, and as you say was 'unprofessional' of the players if this was the case.

Fvck it, probably shouldn't have bothered posting it, just found it interesting after certain players bumping their gums this week

Only the OP said "party" in the title.

I'm sure there's normally a gathering of employees at the end of the season, not just successful ones.

I was meaning it was unprofessional of Murray if he was going to use this "gathering" or whatever you want to call it to inform the players that their contracts wouldn't be renewed.

I don't think the players not turning up was unprofessional at all.

So was Pauls plan to have a party then at the end of the night remind them that there was no renewal of contracts forthcoming and send them on their way with that happy memory after a thrashing on the pitch?

Fuck off Paul, how about responding to the players criticisms instead of this tit for tat pish. Yet more evidence we have no standards in the boardroom.

Sounds like spin from the Murray camp

I have a feeling that they already knew that their contracts wouldn't be renewed. And this little get together was purely a thanks very much sort of thing.

Personally I would have booted their arses out the front door and told the wage thieves to fuck right off.

Imagine the threads tearing the players apart if they DID actually show up to this end of season "gathering" after the Motherwell display???

The article said "reception".

I was trying to dumb it down for you.

:D
