Anyone Else Worried About Next Season?

Recommended Posts

i don't mean to piss on anyones parade here but the confidence that people are showing after Warburtons appointment is quite overwhelming to me. I'm extremely happy that we are getting in a manager with a new vision and who looks to play football as it should be played and who is bringing in young players, but i can't dismiss the fact that Warburton is relatively new to management. His Win rate is 54%, while we can say that he was playing in a better league than we currently are, this is still a gamble taking on a manager new to Scotland.

i really hope i'm worrying over nothing but remember the last time we had a manager who wanted a new style of football at Ibrox? PLG didn't last long. We can't afford to fail this season but if it does start to go wrong, how long would we wait to repair the damage? last season was too little too late but i also think that had we gave PLG more time we would have flourished under him, our games in europe showed me that we were starting too play football instead of the long ball.

As i say, i don't want too be a doomsayer but why are people not concerned?

No.

The best team in the championship are no longer here.

We beat Hibs in the playoffs with a shite side.

We don't have McCoist anymore and we have shed a fair chunk of the shite that he lumbered us with.

We have a new defence which is ten times as good as the one we started with last season while we are still looking to add players/

I'm not worried at all, it will be a entertaining season and WE WILL GO UP.

but appears to have good experience of different levels, understanding of youth development and a good work ethic - don't see it as a big issue tbh

His win rate is 54% with a team that were tipped to be relegated and ended up in a play off for promotion - how you take that as a negative is beyond me!

Because loads of us can see that a massive change is required at the club and someone has to do it sooner or later, this guys has the credentials to implement the required changes and after the last few years it's great that people are being positive in this appoinment

Yes. I keep thinking back to the excitement I felt just before PLG started the season and we all know how that turned out.

But, Davie Weir is there to help and the players are coming from a domestic market.

The players seem to be making the right noises about embracing the new coaching methods, so I'm trying to remain positive, but in the back of my mind is a nagging doubt...

Also on MW win rate you have to take into account he was up against sides with far more resources than he had at hand while he had one of the smallest group of players in the championship.

What he done there was nothing short of a miracle given the size of that club.

The championship down south is regarded as the toughest league in football in terms of promotion and he was a game or 2 away from it with a club who were dwarfed in almost every single aspect.

We have a talented manager with fresh ideas and we have every right to feel optimistic, this isn't the SPFL...it's the second tier and the teams are minging.

I think he is the right man for us but I think some under estimate the size of the job. It takes a certain type of player to play pressing football and possession play, and I don't think a fair few in our squad are equipped for it.

It's a new squad we need, but we've not yet managed to get a new team in yet, only GK and on the whole defence are addressed.

I reckon MW is the right man, but was brought in later than he should have been which reduced the time available to him to get new players in.

The players he's got in I'm happy with but there's not enough. The squad will be working on tactics / formations / set pieces etc any new players still coming in are playing catch up which again isn't ideal. I'm not seeing evidence he is being financially backed, only £200K spent so far isn't huge.

Said on another thread we're a fair bit away, and if Hivees show the consistency Hertz did we have a big big problem. Not going up cannot be an option.

I just can't close it off. PLG came from a great background - it didn't work, Stuart McCall seemed to be almost redeeming us but we failed - agreed the team was filled with useless players but it almost looked like he would manage to get us over the line.

even looking to the scum, remember monkey mowbray wanted to install a "total football" mentality with that shower and that fell flat on it's arse.

Just can't wait till we actually get round to playing again so i can see what we're going to be like this season but right now i'm anxious as hell about it all.

I wouldn't say I'm worried but I'm keeping my feet firmly on the ground and not getting carried away, I don't like when we're over-confident as it normally bites us on the arse.

I remember in the lead up to the Motherwell games the majority thought we were going to take 3-4 off them.

I'm buzzing to see us actually play though under the new leadership, if we can beat Hibs away in the cup then St Midden the first game of the league season then I'll be a lot more confident

From what I saw Hivees played the best football last season but were weak in the final third. I think they've got a few forwards in now to address that.

I think they'll fancy their chances with us being in transition. They're pretty settled.

Wouldn't under estimate them, as I didn't last year with Hertz.

We've been consistently outplayed by shelf stackers and binmen so I disagree strongly that the players we have can't carry that out.

none of those managers came in when half the squad needed to be replaced, warburton knows the type of player he wants, how he wants to play and what his goals are, a full transfer window, a full preseason - he has everything going for him

(tu) same, just need to see us playing to be a bit more confident.

I'm not worried at all. I am really looking forward to this season. Momentum is key, not only for this season but going into next season as well. Hearts went on a run that didn't really stop. They probably left the dressing room believing they would win every game. Rangers used to be like that. I believe this is the season we will get our swagger back.

To further expand my point, Warburton has my backing, win, lose or draw, providing we're moving in the right direction on the park.

I want to see some good football that develops players, I want the players to play for the jersey, I want players to enjoy their football up here and most importantly, I want a dynamic, exciting team. Warburton may or may not provide that, but he's certainly going about it the right way IMO.

First couple of months are crucial, and I like the fact we are playing a few closed doors games, plenty for him to work on and get the shape and system down, I think we'll get a pleasant surprise watching us take on Burnley
