So it's QoTS away on the 9th then at home on the Wednesday with a potential game against Hivs at Ibrox the following Saturday. It's going to be tough, especially with captain undroppable. I'd be amazed if we went up tbh!

This is a nightmare scenario we should never ever have been in. This was patent from the start of the season and plans should have been laid from the minute we won the last title. Correction, the plans should have been in place from the word go three years back. It was clear as day that we would skate the first two divisions and we ought to have done the same with this Championship.

The last three years have been wasted completely with money tossed down the drain on phoney officials, phoney managers and phoney players and what are we left with...

A set of officials who are yet to prove themselves to the powers that be, let alone the fans, a questionable manager with so far a questionable record and a bunch of aged has beens who I seriously doubt have the fitness to play a punishing schedule of games like that.

Best case scenario: we beat Hearts and Hibs lose, followed by St Mirren get themselves off the relegation spot. Will I ask the bookies for odds? Even if I got them I wouldn't risk a penny on it.

I have no confidence now, I think we'll finish 3rd and then I just can't see us beating QOS over two legs.

I think we will. McCall will play five in midfield down there and we'll close out at Ibrox. We made them look good cos we can't play on plastic.

McCall has had quite a decent series of games to see the players in action home / away / on grass / on plastic. We've all seen the results. Not very good. Not of a quality that would inspire many to think that there was a very solid prospect of winning each of the 2-legged ties and winning promotion. Add to that a dismal cup record across the waterfront of cups in recent times and it indicates we do not have players with a fighting cup-winning mentality. Add to that the pressures of playing for Rangers and the even greater pressures that exist this season. Not a backcloth for holding out good prospect of winning. Arguably more hope than expectation by some way.

What's more - much more in fact - is that each of the opposition teams know they can score against us. More than once too. The know the defence is leaky and gifted at gifting soft goals. They know that we can't defend corners or free kicks properly. They know that our strikers are goal-shy and that we take far too few of the goal scoring opportunities that are created. They know our midfield largely bottles a hard contest. They know that most of the goal-scoring threat comes down the LHS and we offer very little threat from the right hand side. So the opposition have us well tagged and will know what to do having done it successfully more than once this season.

So what does McCall do with these games? More of the same? Throw in some of the those other Newcastle loanees that are nearly fit and maybe good for half a game or a bit more to see if they can make a positive difference? Go back to the old heads of Boyd and Daly and Foster in the hope that surely their experience must eventually do the job for us and their rank bad form ends? A combination of old heads and Newcastle loanees in an desperate act to make a difference? He can't surely rely overly on youngsters - too much of a responsibility and what if it goes badly wrong for them?

So what will he do I wonder. Maybe since we can't defend as we ought to be able to and can't score as many goals as we should be able to the time for experiment is over and its pack the defence and play on the counter with a single striker home and away? Or pack the defence and midfield and play with no recognised striker and hope that the likes of Law, Vuckic, Murdoch, or whoever breaking from midfield sneaks a goal that we simply then pack out a defence to defend the lead? For a team with a single striker a defence of Bell, McGregor, Moshni, Zal, Wallace, (I'm going to say this even though I don't like it) and McCulloch. Midfield of Murdoch, Ferguson, Vuckic, Law. Striker Clark or Gallagher.

Should we treat these as old fashioned European ties with a primary objective of not conceding any goals and take it from there. Sure as fuck we have shown no signs of playing our way out of this league by an approach that looks to attack at every opportunity because we are too easily picked off on the counter attack. And in defending set pieces more defenders who are at least recognised defenders need to be on the park (which doesn't mean the job is done because they are each capable of switching off when it matters but maybe if there are more of them someone might be able to cover when the inevitable mistake happens). We should really not need to consider radical changes to the way we play but honestly - unless we want to rely solely on good luck - a radical change of tactical approach for these games is the only way I can see us creating much more for opposition to think about and creating a set of circumstances that we could exploit,

I'll be interested to see what line McCall takes. I bet the Board will be even more interested as I guess a huge amount of how quickly and how well Rangers recovers depends on what happens in these games

Fuck sake I had the days booked off work for the original dates now have to go begging to get them changed. Well seeing I hadn't booked flights yet. TV companies are a shower of wankers

Booking flights is a nightmare for this, don't know where we'll finish yet so can't tell which will be at home, also have no idea how far we'll get till a few days before when the prices go up.

I agree. If we get our tactics right for QOTS away then we have a decent chance of progressing. Hibs will be the key one IMO. Its going to take 2 monumental efforts if we do get through to face them.
