Rangers boss Mark Warburton has heaped praise on summer signing Martyn Waghorn after a string of impressive displays this season.

The 25-year old arrived from Wigan Athletic in July, after failing to command a regular starting place with the Latics, and has since rediscovered his best form in Glasgow.

“Martyn was needing to play a run of games and he’s getting into his stride now,” said Warburton, in quotes published by the Herald Scotland.

Waghorn is Rangers' top scorer, with three in his first fourScottish Championship games, and has formed a deadly trio alongside promising winger Barrie McKay and veteran striker Kenny Miller.

Speaking specifically about what the former England Under-21 international brings to his team, Warburton added:

“He can play central, he can play wide, he can cut in, he can go outside, he secures the ball, he links up play and he’s a tremendous asset for the team.

“I’m delighted for him because he came here to play football and have a positive impact, and he’s doing that…. hopefully the fans can see that as well.”

The fans will certainly have noticed Waghorn’s contribution and the the tricky winger is further evidence of the success of Rangers’ summer business.

Loan deals for some of the most promising young talent in England - in the form of Nathan Oduwa and Gedion Zelalem - has been complimented by shrewd permanent additions.

James Tavernier, also bought in from Wigan, has been a revelation and midfielders John Eustace and Andy Halliday have seamlessly transitioned into Warburton’s expansive Gers team.

All signs point to an exciting campaign ahead and if the likes of Waghorn can maintain their current form, the sky really is the limit for Warburton's men.

John Eustace has transitioned into Warburton’s expansive Gers team?

Has he aye?

Did the silly cunt that penned that even watch us?

Warburton has said so himself. Everybody really likes him, he gets along with everyone, working hard in training etc. Team doesn't necessarily mean on the field.

I thought the same at first, so I can understand where you've came from. Could have been worded better.

I agree with that, but the writer was describing our football and mentioned a player who doesn't play for us.

Small thing in another wise positive article.

One of those players who if you took him out the side you would realise just how much he offers the team.

If he can find the knack of scoring goals at will then he'd be the signing of the season. Only thing he lacks, but still a quality player.

If I was Andy Halliday, and everything he has done for the team (on the park) I would be annoyed to be labelled similar to someone who hasn't yet played a first team game.

At first I was underwhelmed because I thought Waghorn was a centre forward, and he wasn't banging in a barrowload of goals, but then I realised how important he is to bringing other players in, and now I appreciate how important he is to the team.

And that's what is about this season, the team.

Apparently we need a poacher.

Personally, I don't think we do.

Warburton's style of play involves every single player in the team working hard and closing the opposition down. A poacher standing in the six yard box all game doesn't fit into that philosophy.

If Waghorn gets injured, we have Miller, Clark and Hardie who can all come in and do a job.

I thought we were lacking a 20+ goals a season striker at first too, but with the amount of goals that we've been getting throughout the team, I've changed my mind. I think if everyone continues to chip in, we'll be fine.
