Youth Loans - Potential

Plenty youth have crumbled under our pressure as fans to meet a certain standard every game. Expectations at Rangers are higher than anywhere else in Scotland and potential is/was never enough. Just look at some of our current first team and the opinions/criticisms of fans towards them every week.

Young players make mistakes because they are still learning. Through this phase it's better for them as players and young men to to do that outside the glaring spotlight of Rangers FC.

It's up to each of them now to go out and be stars at their loan clubs. Prove they can handle that pressure at a smaller club and then bring those lessons back to Rangers and push on.

The manager gets criticised for not using them. Fans on here claim they should be on the bench and used in bit part roles to gauge their potential. They are at a critical age where regular games will help them learn their craft. If they can't be guarenteed that with us then surely it's beneficial to put them in a situation where it is more likely?

Will they all make it and become stars of our first team? No. That's the reality of young footballers today. They have got where they are on potential, now they have to start turning that potential into quality. In a more conducive enviroment for learning from mistakes, away from the immense pressure of our expectation, will only benefit them. Which in turn will benefit us while they remain Rangers players.

Now it's up to them to show the determination and effort, that has got them this far, to push on and follow the examples of Macleod and Aird.

I know I'll be keeping an eye on each of them and their potential progress. Good luck to them.

Yep - potential only takes you so far - I noticed that with my daughter coming through the age bands at judo - always in the top 3 for her agre group up to u21 but now fighting adult and dropped down the rankings but now progressing as she kicks on. Some of her peers doing better than her at the adults - some dropping way down - and it's like that with the football - some like Macleoud can handle it early - some ( like weir) progress later - good op and good luck to those looking to kick on.

It's a sensible move to loan them out if they're not commanding regular game time with us yet. If they shine during they're loan period the experience will be invaluable for them and we might well reap the benefit. If they're just average, inconsistent or worse, then they'll prove they've found their level and they'll never be a Ranger. To me, they need to now perform at a higher level consistently than most of their new team mates if they want a future with us. Good luck boys.

If they were in the first team now and playing then crashed and burned under the pressure or because they weren't good enough the management team would get slated for playing them!

So easy to sit at a keyboard and make these assumptions when you don't see the players day in day out in training, when you don't have the pressure on your shoulders to try and ensure continuous promotions through the leagues.

All of these lads are only on short term loans and they have a chance to prove themselves with hopefully more first team football and in the long run that could benefit us.
