  1. We are, at best, a work in progress. We still lack the quality, consistency and winning mentality it takes to win trophies.

Quality - We do not have the quality in midfield or upfront to unlock a well-drilled defence.  I don't believe we have the personnel for a 4-3-3. Candeias for example - and I genuinely love they guy's effort and occasional flashes of quality - is a right midfielder, not a winger. In days gone by he would have been a squad player and that is what he should be next season.

Consistency - At times we have played good football - and not only against the shite teams in the league. But we have dropped points either because we can't put games away when we have been in control - losing late equalisers really pisses me off - or because we've played like no one in the team knows where the opposition goal is. Draws have fucked us in the league.

Winning mentality We do not have the physical presence or grit to fight it out with teams like Aberdeen. Apart from McGregor it sometimes seems that no one's that arsed if we're losing. We need players who scream at their teammates if that's what it takes to change the game. Not sulky wee boys that become invisble.

I don't expect us to change everything over the summer, but I'd want us to be buying better quality, training harder to cut down on the stupid mistakes and I would want the team to look like it gves a fuck about the result.

  2. November 1974, we beat Dundee Utd 4-2 at Ibrox. Jardine had a great game - scored two that day including a penalty.

Also remember the last game of 74-75. We'd won the league, but we lost 1-0 at home to Airdrie. Just looked at the season on Wikipedia. We only lost three league games in total: home to Hibs and Airdrie beat us home and away!

  3. A few more comments from Wigan fans. Some seem eerily familiar

The Rangers board sold him because they received an offer they couldn’t turn down. We offered about 1 million more than what Windass is worth, he’s a good player but not 2.5 million good.

...why McMannaman does not start ahead of Windass is beyond me.

Windass will be sold in January. He has no role to play at Latics.

I've given Windass a lot of benefit of the doubt and i accept he doesn't want to be on the right or today the left of midfield but he's just not done anywhere near enough to remotely suggest he is 2.5m worth of player or that he has much to offer even if we moved him to another area of the pitch. He's been a massive let down so far, if he wants to push his way into a more central role he's doing himself no favours.

A gift for Josh Windass and Darron Gibson after today. Not fair to pick on players but deary me, what were they doing out on that pitch ?

  4. In May there was a thread about our expectations for Gerrard's first season. I didn't make any predictions about trophies, but at the time I said I was hoping for this:

Winning long sequences of league games becoming a habit, not a surprise

    Playing without fear

A team that never looks like it has accepted defeat

Wiping the smile off Brenda's face

SG and GMc are delivering so far, long may it continue! :rangers:

  5. Handling the press like it's the easiest thing in the world. Skilled deflection of tricky questions - pointing them to the Craig Levein interview and then when asked about Coulibaly being ready for Saturday.'"I'll know this afternoon" - polite way of saying none of your business.

He's made a flawless start to his time with us. There are sure to be bumps in the road ahead, but I'm starting to believe that SG will get us where we want to be.

I was an agent for a few years in the late 70,s . That's exactly how it worked then as you describe. Big money prizes for that era.

My dad was an agent in the 70s, as well. Remember going over to Ibrox with him for that.

Feel like an old fart when I realise how many on here have never seen a pools coupon...  ?

So Tav moving further forward....into midfield?

Could work with Tav as a wingback in a 5 - as long as there is someone like Flanagan on the right side of the 3CBs to shut the door when Tav goes walkabout.

“I’m just as interested in what the players do out of possession.

To me this is most important point.

He's saying we won't tolerate players standing with their hands on their hips when we lose the ball, there will be no trotting back to make a can't-really-be-arsed attempt at closing down. If you're on the pitch you work for the team and you'd better look like you want to be there.
