I said I'd personally rather they didn't, I also acknowledged it's a free democratic country and people can't be stopped from going to Rangers games if they wish to. Obviously that sort of view annoys you but I see Rangers as still being more than 11 men kicking a ball on the pitch.
I never weighed up pros because nothing could ever have made me vote Yes, it goes against everything I believe in, but when I decided to actually campaign I went at it from the political perspective and there was no true reason for independence. The economic case and currency plans were a shambles, and the rhetoric of 'Tories bad', 'Westminster evil' was designed to whip up the mobs. You only had to go to one of Jim Murphy's street meetings to see where the vast majority of mindless idiots were, Scottish nationalism is ugly and anyone who supports it has either been taken in very badly by propaganda or is an anti-British bigot.

If you were taken in by nationalism then fine but at least have the honesty to admit it, there was no economic or logical case for a Yes vote.

All we kept hearing from the Yes side was that independence wasn't about the SNP because they weren't guaranteed to win elections. So basically you voted to break up a hundreds year old nation on the basis of something that may never even have happened

Rivals normally challenge each other for trophies tbf, it's a local derby.
Most of the English people I know want Scotland to do well, contrast that to the losers in this country arranging parties when England get pumped out a major tournament and it starts to become apparent who the sad sacks are.

You can't really stop anyone buying ticket in a free country so that's a meaningless point. But I still believe and always will that supporting the break up of the union contradicts being a Rangers fan, and I certainly don't want to be amongst nationalists when I'm at games.

simplythebest got a reaction from BRITNEY IS NOT FEELING IT in Scotland V Poland
Our club has been consistently kicked and laughed at by the people running the Scottish National Team and by at least a very large proportion of the fan base. That fan base is also largely made up of people that brand you a traitor and not a true Scot for daring to vote in a certain way.
Stuff like that creates cynicism

I think for a large number of people like myself international football has never felt as important as club football, even at the best of times. When I felt better about the Scottish national team than I do now I still never felt the same passion or unwavering loyalty as I do with Rangers.

There's always going to be class systems whether you have a monarchy or not. The ideology is that they're a constitutional symbol with so much history and they don't actually use the powers that they possess to run the country so there's no real democratic complaint. People generally despise our elected politicians anyway so why some are so desperate for an elected head of state that would be party affiliated and on the same gravy train as all the parliamentarians we already have I don't know. At least the monarchy is a symbol of continuity and is above politics (although Charles is at least borderline sometimes and that's a concern for the future).
Some will be more enthusiastic about the royals than others I know and I happen to be very enthusiastic about them, but even if I wasn't I don't really see what the grand alternative is that would be worth losing everything that they bring us (tourism etc) and likely having to spend millions to change the system to elect some president.
