  1. Is that working on the presumption that Boyd will be away and we'll be left with Miller/Lafferty/Velicka? Boyd and Velicka will probably be off, but even if they both stay (which is incredibly unlikely), i still think we're a real quality powerhouse front man short for the European assault. I would argue that should be Wilson, the lad is ready I think, as, most of us should see preseason He's a year or so away from the first team yet, IMO. No need to rush the lad, mate. Bear in mind he doesnt turn 18 until December.
  2. I disagree What is success in the SPL? winning it. simple. We should have the same ambition/goal in any competition we enter. Champions league would be harder to win, of course (unless we get to the final and meet the reigning champs haha), but, there is absolutely no reason we cant win the UEFA cup. For me, we should be challenging in the later stages of the CL, or, winning the UEFA cup, anything else is a fail Well PG was talking about the Champions League and he's totally correct. Would you be annoyed at Smith and McCoist if we finished 3rd or 4th in a group that featured Barcelona, Inter Milan and Wolfsburg? That's a possible group that we could get, by the way. Of course it depends on the group. Getting to the last 16 is a massive success for any club, much less a Scottish one. The likes of Real Madrid, Roma and Bayern Munich usually struggle to make the later stages, never mind Rangers.
  3. With all due respect to the boy, i really hate the fact he plays for Rangers. The phrase 'not Rangers class' is often overused on here, but it's perfectly applicable in Broadfoot's case. A fundamentally hollow footballer.
  4. I actually agree with you for once here. Give Thomson the vice captaincy and ease him into the role, allowing him to recapture fitness and form. Weir is everything i want in a captain.
  5. A quality striker, a winger and a centre half to vie with Weir.
  6. he was a quality player He was, for Ajax and Barca. He was a bit too broken down and older when we got him. Still good, but, not quality, however, he was a "name" which seems to make a difference. He also was injured a hell of a lot. De Boer wasn't quality? Are you having a giraffe? You don't get to choose between Rangers and Man Utd when your leaving Barca if you're not 'quality'. I think season 02/03 proved that he was a cut above anyone in Scotland bar Barry Ferguson and Henrik Larsson at the time. De Boer could slice open defences apart effortlessly when he wanted to. Techincally he's up there with the best we've ever had, even if the injuries took their toll in the end.
  7. What if he did say it? He's being candidly honest. Barcelona's equivalent of Ronald de Boer at the current time is someone like Eidur Gudjohnsen or Lexey Hleb. Do you think they'd be interested in coming to the SPL? No chance. The quote as pointed out before is a cracker. I met Ronny a good few times and he really did love the club.
  8. Boyd excellent today. A fitting goodbye.
  9. To think people on here actually rated Morgaro Gomis higher than him. Pedro steps up to the plate yet again. Still want him sold? What a player. Gomis was given a masterclass by Pedro.
  10. Alexander by the proverbial mile. My blood pressure has reduced remarkably since he took the jersey, it's just so nice having a goalkeeper who can actually control a routine cross ball.
  11. Don't flatter yourself Excellent. If that's your best argument in response to my post, then I guess you should have just said 'touche' and been done with it. Oh, stop being so pompous. It's a football discussion forum, not the House of Commons.
  12. Why not Levein? I mean his haul of trophies is impressi.... Oh, scrap that one. He always handles himself with great dignity even when his team loses a mat.... Yeah, forget that as well. Well, he done a great job at Leic..... Nope, not that one either. Craig Levein will thrive at smaller clubs where he can cherry-pick from the SFL, his forte. Give him a bigger squad to deal with that must compete at a higher level and he'll fill it up with shite. He's also terrible when it comes to dealing with pressure.
  13. Me too. I didn't actually say that. I said despite, not in spite of - which is a dramatically different context entirely. Well, the result on Saturday was neither 'in spite' of, 'despite', or 'because' of simply as he wasn't involved in the victory was he? So none of the players who were substandard during this period should be in any way criticised? You feel Smith, Mendes, Dailly, Boyd, Velicka etc all of whom had poor games now and again shouldn't in any way be called on it? Really? I was probably the only fan on here to give Mendes any credit for his performance against Hibs - still not good enough but better than it had been. Everyone else was slagging him off. And like it or not but after his early displays, people expect something special from Mendes - and I've been disappointed for months at his inability to deliver it pretty much for the whole of 2009 so far. I guess, by your logic, a lot of fans on here have and had vendettas against players: Everyone had an axe to grind with Ferguson now and again, Boab wanted to castrate Lee McCulloch, PB didn't have a good word to say about Kris Boyd and neither did Papaguy51 - and your good self has been unfairly critical of Steve Davis from the off. We're all allowed to have our views, it doesn't mean we have pitchforks as well. I've clearly hit a nerve here but the original point has been distorted completely, parcially down to the wording of my own retort. At the end of the day, dropping a player who has played a key part in 9 victories for a player who hasnt kicked a ball in months would be in my eyes, ridiculous.
  14. You'll need to be more specific, is it Ferguson or Mendes you're referring to here? Have we or have we not had our best run of the season with Mendes and Edu in the middle of the park and Davis on the right? I don't expect you to answer. I think our run has been despite Mendes' dreadful form. I was always of your logic, that as long as the results come in, that's all that matters. Well, just because Hibs let us off the hook on Sunday doesn't mean our own match V Hibs is irrelevant, and Mendes was part of a team which didn't get a result. Curiously enough, we also weren't getting a result on Saturday until Ferguson came on. So, how does that fit in with your logic? I do expect you to answer I think it's quite shocking and almost preposterous to say that our run was in spite of Mendes. Likewise the result on Saturday. Like the rest of the midfield he has been workman like and has dug in. Collectively as a unit, the team who went on the run (except for a certain 2) should be credited and in retrospect, no doubt will be. Really expect better from you, mate, and can't help but think your developing a personal vendetta here.
  15. hes the "genius number 10" type we have lacked since i can remember, im sure walter would keep him happy, winning every week, champs league, winning cups, he would love it here and no daniel cousin to fall out with! No he isnt. He's a troublemaking, inconsistant bottle merchant who totally flatters to decieve. The fans he's played for from Barcelona to Benfica would concur with that. Keeping the realistic hat on, i've been watching copious amounts of the J-League in recent months and there is some serious talent there, all of which would be available at a decent price. Defensively, it would be too much of a culture shock for many to adapt to the SPL, but in attacking sense i see no problems that the SPL would pose. Yoshizumi Ogawa of Nagoya Grampus (2008 J-League young player of the year) has always been a stand out. Pacey with a nice delivery, he reminds me of Daisuke Matsui who's had great success in Ligue 1. He's worth a look.
