tannerall got a reaction from Juniorsparkie in Rangers Picture Thread
My hero, only the great Johan Neeskens came close to affecting the way I tried to play football. Energy, passion, skill, contribution to the team, awarensss of those around, strong tackling, sweet passing and commitment to winning, and most importantly he looked to be enjoying every minute, especially when scoring against the taigs or in cup finals and the big games in Europe, which he did more often than expected.
Criminal he was never given a chance at International level, would have walked in to many a great team and been their midfield dynamo.
Our current team is crying out for a commited midfielder like Doddy.........

tannerall got a reaction from gmcf in Memories Of Stewart Kennedy
Came across as a really likeable, slightly eccentric bloke. The fans liked him. Him and big Peter McCloy were in competition a lot (there was a third goalie who only got a few games, Donald Hunter ?). Both were good goalies but both had they're flaws, McCloy found it difficult to get down to the low shots, and Kennedy could pull off miracle saves, then let in a silly one.
Was destroyed in that Wembley game against a very strong England team who dominated the midfield and fired in long shots at random, a few of which rocketed in, one embarrasingly as Stewart ended up missing the ball and swinging on the post he grabbed.
This haunted him ever after you could see his confidence had dipped. He got more stick for that from press etc than Haffey of cellic ever got for losing 9 at Wembley against a lesser english team (imo).

Don't worry about the lack of football.
We did what we had to do and our opponents combusted.
Just keep grinning.

“Their first game was a terrible spectacle with the ball suffering an incredible amount of abuse”
Not much changed in Scottish football then.
That's a brilliant quote from William Dunlop, showing even back then football was a game that had some great characters
Now we are probably playing the most creative and skilled football in our 150th year, and at least the ball itself is not taking the same abuse from our current players..

and the next sentence “William McBeath was given man of the match and then spent a week in bed recovering due to his exertions’’, im sure many of us spent a few days in bed after the exertions of last weekend 😂

Fuck it but if we’re just ignoring the 2002 onwards part of the opening post then I’m going for 1960 when we signed Baxter, Henderson and McKinnon

A wee tip for gardeners.
Choose a colour scheme you like in the garden, but keep it subtle, as it might annoy the neighbours.

And at no time was it implied or taken to task officially that there may have been obvious sectarian or even racist issues in targeting a foreign player in Scotland for a political,(as in seeming sensible and judicious in the circumstances).minded football agenda by the press and media.
That is what annoyed me the most.
But thankfully Gerrard, Defoe and his other team mates and advisors steered him through it when a reasonable man, especially a good family man, would probably have thought "fuck this, I'm out of this cesspit".
Wee hero who has become a greater player and already a man of huge stature in our history.
