  1. Didn't see Durie at all. I was surprised myself to see Durrant albeit he appeared suited and booted and wearing the club tie. Aside from which we are a team going nowhere at this time. Our gardener should be ashamed of his legacy.
  2. Yes he was the camera panned in on McDowall and him sitting side by side looking like two lost boys
  3. Absolutely clueless. Both sitting down with no idea or effort to try and change the game. I don't care what it costs but the board cannot allow this to continue. We desperately need a new manager now! Stuart McCall looked sickened at the lack of organisation. With a bit of investment we could have had him in charge today and been the better for it.
  4. £10 bet already placed at 14-2.Rangers WILL win this game. We have more players who are experienced in these games than they have. Remember poor Fernando's first game when by his own admission he was like a startled rabbit? I reckon they will have a burrow full of them on Sunday. I have never felt so confident about us winning in a long time. This could be our turning point on field.
  5. Souness came in with a war chest to buy players. Also at that time English teams were banned from European competitions and Souness was able to persuade big name English players to come and play for us. There is no way he would return to this car crash of a club as it exists in its present form. Added to which when his beloved Liverpool came calling, he was off like jiffy leaving us at a fairly precarious stage of a season where winning the league title was not a guarantee. Not for me thank you.
  6. Whilst I can understand the positive sentiments of such a decision to bring back our younger on loan players it would put an unnecessary burden on them at this stage of the season when a lot of damage has already been done. I am all for giving young players a chance but I feel this is not the time and could do untold damage to their future development in the game if it all went belly up. What Kenny and Gordon have to do is put a massive boot up the established players backside and get them playing to their full potential in a style where they play in their natural positions and in a manner where we pass the ball and don't rely on punts up the park. By all means if things are going well introduce a young player into a match when there is no doubt of the result in our favour. We need to look at the overall development of our young players and this in my opinion is looking towards the future. For me getting behind Kenny and Gordon is the only way for now and let's see what they have to offer.
  7. The problem I have with this post is in which thread to do so. Ally reminds me of my days working in pubs in the 1970s. I worked with a chargehand ( depute manager to you young ones) who was okay at what he did. He was given his chance to be a manager and was not up to the task. It gives me no pleasure to say this because I always wished that you would be the man to lead us. Sadly, Ally that has not transpired . I think you need to do the honourable deed and fall on your sword whilst you still have a fabric of your reputation intact.
  8. Gordon Strachan for me. A man who understands tactics and can change games. Forget the friendly against England players were left in no doubt to avoid injuries and in any case there was nothing at stake in that game.
  9. I'm afraid that there is no fear factor among the players as the manager stands almost motionless during each game. He allowed himself a smirk when he kicked the ball when we had a throw in. The manager and his two assistants clearly have no solution to our current predicament. I would break the bank to get Gordon Strachan in as soon as possible.
  10. If this story is true and is related to Fernando's current medical condition then it doesn't augur well. Hopefully this is not the case. We all wish him well.
  11. I just remember a few years back when Black put Jelovic out of action for months with a brutal tackle. Never quite understood why we would want him in a Rangers' jersey. Especially when he was leaving Hearts to go back to the painting and decorating day job.
  12. Terrible to hear of anyone losing their job. Particularly if it is their only source of income. Also in the run up to the busiest spending period of the year it makes it even more devastating. It remains a truism, that the people who can least afford it are the ones hardest hit. One day we may live in a more equal society. I'm afraid it won't be in my lifetime.
  13. I would have thought that in this day and age all stadia are designed with spectator safety as paramount. No doubt we will see what unfolds in the enquiry to follow. However the tragedy remains a young lad with his life ahead of him dying at a football match and leaving untold heartache on his family and friends. I also would not have cared what team he supported as we as a club know only too well about fans not returning from a football match. RIP young fellow.
  14. I posted this on another thread but I would take Gordon Strachan in a minute. He has tactical knowledge and knows how to get the best out of players. He also doesn't suffer fools gladly and would have the press running for cover. Never mind that he played for" them" and he managed"them." He clearly has turned the Scotland team around into a credible unit and I think he would jump at the chance of managing the biggest team in Scotland and restoring us to glory.
  15. This probably won't be popular on this forum, but I would take Gordon Strachan as our next head coach. A man who actually understands tactics and who is able to change games accordingly. Unfortunately our present manager will never possess these qualities.
  16. I think we have regained respectability as a national football team under Gordon Strachan. Note- a coach who can actually coach. I remember listening to the radio commentary of Scotland v Italy in 1966 when John Greig scored the last minute winner. It was a proud moment to be a Scot, as it was in 1967 and during the 70s 80s and 90s. I have supported Scotland for many years. I take on board the critiscism of the SFA in recent years but I think with the news of the arrests in relation to the fraudulent takeover of our club there will be many people who will have to eat humble pie and apologise. Back on track,I would love to see Scotland in the finals of a major tournament again as I think Gordon Strachan could actually get us to the latter stages of the tournament.
  17. I am extremely fortunate to have seen both players in action. Jim existed in a time when the top footballer didn't earn a great deal more than the most successful working classes. Indeed in his early days he used to come from the mining pit to play for Rangers. Paul was a product of the celebrity cult which grew from the 1990s and pervades our culture today. Paul was an extremely talented young and generous man who fell in with the wrong crowd. Jimmy Baxter was of similar ilk. Jimmy from a small mining community catapulted into big city life and Paul who wanted to be all things to all men Both were football geniuses but genius is a heavy load, it can take you down a lonely road. Jimmy, I can do nothing about but wish him rest. Paul, all I can do is hope he can sort out his demons. Both men are much loved members of our Rangers family and will remain ever so. As for who was the better player, it is an impossible task given the difference in speed of play between the generations. Almost like comparing Rod Laver v Rodger Federer in tennis terms. Both players were immense in their respective eras. It would be like comparing Gazza to the current stars of today. Times change, fitness and speed changes. I am just thankful to have seen both players make a huge impact on Rangers and I thank them both for the wonderful memories.
  18. I have deliberately avoided posting on this forum in recent months because I dislike the manner in which abuse and insults are traded between members of the Rangers' brother/sisterhood. Tonight like you all, I am deeply saddened by the passing of one of our true stalwarts, William Pullar (Sandy) Jardine. When you think of Rangers stalwarts, there are only a select few who come to mind. Our Gallant Pioneers, Struth, Symon, Waddell, Wallace and Smith as managers. Other managers have come in and have had limited success but not on a scale as those quoted. Then we turn to the players, Meiklejohn, Mcphail, Gillick, Young, Waddell, Thornton, Shearer, Caldow, Greig, Baxter, Henderson, Brand, Miller. I could go on all night but each one of you from different generations will have your own selections. Here is the crux. What makes a Rangers player are stalwart? It is not only talent, for we have had many of those. It is not being part of a successful team/era for we also have had many of those. What makes a Rangers player a stalwart is the manner with which he conducts himself not only on, but off the park. It is the dignity he shows, not only in the pride of being a part of one of the greatest institutions in world football, but the humility he shows when required. It is the composure under pressure from both opponents and media scrutiny alike. It is also the ability to uphold and preserve the tradition of our great club which has been handed down through the generations. In other words it is to be able to stand before Mr Struth and to be inspected by him and be told, " that will do for me lad." It is to be a Ranger in every sense of the word. William Pullar Jardine would have passed Mr Struth's scrutiny on every occasion. I also have a thought for a former esteemed poster on this forum Edmiston Drive, who was very close to Sandy. Both in their own way are missed. Thanks for the memories Sandy. You made a lot of people very proud and very happy.
  19. Rainbow laces? Haven't got clue what you are talking about.
  20. I put up a post asking for Edmiston Drive to be reinstated . I now see that my post has disappeared from RM. It would appear that the admin/mods are too touchy and will not come forward in explaining why such a fine poster and true blue was banned from this site. I am extremely disappointed with this. I would have expected better!
  21. To Peter Huistra. thanks for posting that mate. I was there with my then 10 year old son. It was a great day. I still have both these jerseys in my collection. Imagine if we could get that calibre of player again these days for our club! Some of the passing was amazing including of all people Peter Van Vossen. Thanks once again for the memories!
  22. I wish to apologise to you for an over reaction and insulting response I made to a comment you made in relation to my post. It is never my intention to insult fellow fans of our club.I like ED's posts as I think he brings an entertaining and sometimes insightful perspective to the forum. That is my choice. I don't always agree with what he says but as ED himself concurs that is what a forum is all about. It's like you telling me you like x,y,z music or actor and me telling you you are are niaive for so doing. We should always be able to agree to disagree on some matters but in a respectful manner. Once again I stand by my comments as per my original post, but I apologise to you as my follow up comment addressed towards your response was out of order. I pray for the day when this forum becomes discussion about on-field matters only. I think we are all getting caught in the maelstrom which is affecting our club at this time.
