Am surprised they hadn’t thought about that wasted advertising space on the bottom of players boots when they are injured or getting carried off.

Aye, was a good post. Gave me a laugh anyway.
Fuck man, with the way advertising is going these days, I wouldn't be surprised to see a captains armband that had LED sponsorships some time in the next 10 years...
Kinda like the advertising hording we already have round our stadium as I type this.
Would look silly as fuck, but the younger generation would love to see an armband like that and the first team that made an armband like that would make a mint from the coverage they get from around the world's media.

A good captain is crucial to most teams.   You need an arse-kicker to get the less-motivated players going.   We needed a real captain against Malmo and sadly we didn't and don't have one.   When we lose a goal the heads are all down and we take an age to get the game restarted.  There is nobody urging our players to step it up a gear, to drive us forward.   It isn't a new failing in my opinion, we have not had one for years.   We had Greig, Butcher, Gough, Ferguson and such like in the past.  We have no-one even close to real captain material.

Probably would with the situation in South America at the moment. I'm not that clued up on it but from what I have heard it seems that all of the South American countries are having quite a bad time with Covid at the moment.
Obviously would be brutal for the fans, but with the majority not getting a ticket anyway moving it to another continent wouldn't be the worst of suggestions, even though you were trying to take the piss.
Should probably try and post more attempts at nonsense more often as it seems to be better than your attempts at serious posts.

Played there a few times if I remember rightly? Remember it raised a lot of eyebrows at the time, but he was unreal in that position. Can't believe how much he still had in the tank after he left us. We should have kept him.

Maybe the league title discussion around that season is less talked about for a few reasons. I'd say apart from 2007/08 it was our most exciting European campaign even though it ended prematurely. We constantly faced big teams like Parma, Bayern, Valencia, PSV and ,correct me if I'm wrong, Dortmund in the UEFA Cup.
Add to the European campaign the oranje cup final was a huge moment that season with Hampden decked out in Orange. For me it was a special day as a kid and I remember that more than anything else the league gave us maybe outwith the win at parkhead and the 4-0 battering at Ibrox of them. I'd still consider the cup final higher weirdly enough.
Though similar to this season in regard to the records up to a certain point and how early we had "won" it and actually won it. I think there is a different mentality around it. In 2000 we'd won our 11/12th title and though it was important there were other more interesting things to look back at that season whereas today 55 was the be all and end all!
Also the season before we won it at parkhead in the middle of a timplosion. Though our consistency was outstanding in 99/2000 it would never give us that same high we got the season before.

I quite often say this but that Advocaat period was probably the high water mark of the modern club.
The stadium was one of the best in Europe.
We had loads of internationals, Champions League winners, and a World Cup winner in the squad. Some of the football we played was fantastic and we were regularly playing in Europe against top sides.
Our Nike merch range was probably the best we have ever had and our Rangers collection merch was extensive and of very high quality. You could buy our strips in most Nike stores around the world. We had club shops all over Scotland and Northern Ireland.
Add in Murray Park opening a bit later too which at the time was one of the best facilities in Europe.
Obviously in hindsight Murray had built all of this on debt and other peoples money.

Redwhiteandblue reacted to The Moonlighter in 162 Years Ago Today.George Goudie. The Man Who Saved The Rangers.
George Goudie was born on the 9th April 1859.

A few years ago in Lambhill Cemetery in Glasgow we managed to locate the final resting place of Rangers President George Goudie, unfortunately the stone marking the plot was off it’s plinth.Subsequently our Restoration team re-erected the stone and blast cleaned it.

As a token of our gratitude, thanks and respect we at the Restoration of Rangers Graves Project thought that it would be fitting to mark Mr Goudies plot with a plaque.

This is today’s generation of Rangers supporters saying thank you to Mr George Goudie.

    President 1882 – 1883 - Vice President 1883 – 1885.

George Goudie was a Paisley “Buddie” born at 2 Hamilton Street in the town on 9 April 1859 to Humphrey, an engine-fitter and his wife Anne.

It would appear young George spent his formative years overseas. There is no trace of the family in the census of 1861 or in that of 1871.They do appear in the 1881 census. By then the family home was at 14 Union Street in Leith. The census records twenty-one year-old George had three siblings. Eighteen year-old Matthew and sixteen year-old William had been born in Greece. The youngest of the four sons, fourteen year-old Henry, had been born in Turkey. George’s occupation was given as “clerk”.

Research has,as yet, failed to reveal how the young clerk from Leith became, within a year, vice-president of Rangers Football Club! Goudie’s first appearance in the Glasgow PO directory was not until 1886/87. We do know, though, that he was an accomplished athlete, being successful at distances ranging from 100 yards to 880 yards. It is not an unfair assumption that George became friends with Tom Vallace on the athletics circuit and he was brought into the Rangers’ circle through Tom.

When Archie Harkness died so tragically young in November,1882,Vice-president George Goudie assumed the presidency of the club. These were not good times for the Rangers. There had been no attempt to build up the club membership. The club was in such financial straits, the committee approached President Goudie requesting he provide a loan of £30 (just under £3,000 in today’s terms). This he did without hesitation.

Would Rangers Football Club have survived if Goudie had not agreed to provide the loan? We have to assume that without it, the end may have been nigh.By the summer of 1883, the club was £100 in debt. George served just a matter of months as president. He stood down at the annual general meeting in May, 1883, held at the Athole Hotel.Tom Vallance became president.George served as his vice-president for the next two years.

The fact the committee felt they could approach George Goudie for a loan would suggest he had already established his business as a produce merchant with some success. George married Jane Currie on 14 April, 1887 at her family home at 20 Kelvingrove Street. George had been living at 89 Grant Street, a short distance from Rangers’ old Burnbank ground. The first marital home would appear to have been at Sandyford Street. By 1891, the family, now augmented by George, Jnr had moved to 20 Kelvingrove Street. George had had offices in Waterloo Street and York Street.

By the time of the 1901 census, George Jnr had been joined by sister Jane and brothers Alexander and James. Five years later, the Goudies had moved to Pollokshields, the family home being “Dunard” at 14 Leslie Street. George had retained his sporting competitive spirit, turning his hand to bowls. He had been a member of the St Vincent Club, then, on moving south of the river, Titwood Bowling Club. His final business address was in Howard Street.

George suffered from heart disease for the last eighteen months or so of his life. He died, aged only fifty-one on 24 February 1911. His funeral took place at the Western Necropolis, attended by his “wide circle of friends”. The funeral directors were James Henderson and Co. Yes, the same James Henderson who, too, became president of Rangers and at the time of George’s death, was chairman of Rangers Football Club Limited. We do not have a great record of George Goudie’s time on the Rangers committee.

That one act, however, the granting of a loan of £30,will ensure his place in our history will live for ever.

Today as we celebrate our 55th title we remember George Goudie, the man who saved the Rangers.

There should be a lottery with an opt out option. Some ST holders who are high risk may not want to go until they feel safer.
Nobody could argue with a lottery for ST holders.

Ally loves Argyll, he even has a house here that he stays in regularly.  I always thought that was the reason he called his first born 'Argyle, being from Glasgow would make sense of why he spelled her name with an 'e'.
Obviously 'Argyle Street' is very well known, and the spelling of that Street has the 'e' at the end. Think it was named after someone with the name 'Argyle'??
So when using the word as a person's name, it makes sense to use the 'e'. But when talking about the area, it's spelled 'Argyll'.
Obviously can't say for sure, would need to ask Ally...

Can't believe how exciting it was to know a manager of his "calibre" was coming to our club. Pity his preparation for the season to come was a run in the desert.
Only good thing to come out if his appointment (bar Papac) was getting Walter back
