  1. Started off as a rumoured £1M. Then some pointed out that £1M for a guy in the last year of his deal is high particularly this guy all things considered. Word from the Ipswich end is that the fee is closer to £250k than £1M.
  2. While I don't think he's good enough for where we need to be I do think we as a support forget just how little we created for the best part of a season and a half under Warburton for all the possession; slow going forward, passing sideways with very little in the way of cutting through balls or decent crosses and all made when the opposition has fallen back into Alamo mode, with this in mind it goes some way to negating the poor return from our forwards last season and even the latter half of the Championship season. Waghorn's a bit of an all rounder, special at nothing but a bit of an all rounder and better at penalties than John A-Job A-kin-dae of Barnet (I have seen a few Ipswich fans mention him). Is a £1m too much for Waghorn? Fuck yes, in a couple of words but if they're talking about spending more on Akinde then I think they'd be better off taking the punt on Waghorn and saving the extra cash because Garner ripped League 1 but when you look at the space he got down there and the time he got on the ball it explains both why he struggled in the Championship on previous attempts and why he did here, Akinde is a League two man who seems to have a decent eye/dig in open play but strikes me as slow, needs space, and his penalties are woeful - scores them but watch them and tell me the keepers wanted to save them, I'd take a punt on the guy for League 1 and for a few hundred thousand absolute tops but more than a million for the Championship? Please! Matty Taylor was one of the better looking available options for reasonable money down south last Summer on his League 2 form for the previous season and while he did seemingly well stepping up to League 1 for the first half of last season he has yet to find his feet in the Championship after 15 games returning 2 goals (wiki). Akinde jumping from league 2 to Championship for daft money has car crash written all over it. I think we'd have got more out Waghorn with a midfield that has attacking impetus or if we weren't playing back-10 teams every week but he's not the required standard on evidence for where we need to be. I looked through the options down South last season for the lower than £1M bar knowing Warburton for some reason thought the talent was "rife" and the "value" was there, the pickings were very slim, to highlight how slim we signed Garner for a start, secondly at £1.8 fucking million, and both he and Stockley at Aberdeen had the best record for scoring headers (that I could identify) Championship and below in the season before last. From an Ipswich perspective, Waghorn in truth looks to be just one of a few that is available from a questionable bunch and if they've spent £1M truly there's desperation there. If on the other hand, it's true that Ipswich got him for near £250k then I reckon that's worth a punt in hope and better value than they'd get just about anywhere in England for someone that might cut the mustard for the season ahead. The obvious extra bonus is he's spent a year with Garner already so you would think there would be an understanding of each other straight off the bat that you wouldn't get with 2 players unknown to one and other. Good luck to both the player and Ipswich, hopefully, he'll get more space and service than here and gets a few penalties to take, same for Garner by that token (minus the penalties).
  3. The way I look at it is this, Herrera may not exactly have a prolific record and the compilation (a video I think i may have posted in the transfer section before he signed) video of his misses may be brutal BUT the goals he's scored were harder than them and included a few crackers (lovely header, overhead kick and first time volley inside post), perhaps more importantly his link up play, quick one-twos are something we've desperately lacked going forward. He's here now playing teams that Warburtons Whallopers finished 3rd against and should have finished second against, he's not involved in games where somebodies family dies if he scores in the wrong ten-minute frame of a game, give the guy a chance and see what happens.
  4. I doubt sincerely we paid what has been banded about. Not sure how it would be worked but I didn't believe we paid £1.8M for Garner in reality, the way I see it we are making deals look like we're putting more into the team than we are and if I'm wrong on that I've at least got it right the they aren't worth those fees ahead of the game. Pena was leaving Mexico with comments on Youtube (with 50-100 thumbs up) saying things like "Should enjoy the whisky tours", "So the alcoholic heads to the land of whisky", etc. etc. He could be Gazza-esque in terms of his ability allows him to get away with off the field antics, he could be here to sort himself out and get back into the swing of being a dominating winner OR he could be a name to to boost optimism that turns to shit e.g. Barton. If he's not playing he ain't ready to, simple as that I think. I'm hoping he takes a look at his fall from grace, sees the opportunity to be someone again and takes it with both hands (fighting his demons all the way) because if he does that he'll tear this league up and score a few top bags from 25 yards without even looking like he's trying.
  5. If Miller is off his game drop him for the next one as he fucking hates being dropped and has a nasty habit of scoring when you doubt him so to get the results and the best from him I'd employ this especially as we have to find solutions for the long term now and as yet we have dick all. Morelos while an exciting prospect is just that, I don't think he's ready to do the real job required and as such he should feature (bench appearances for fresh legs or give him more time when a game is done in our favour early, occasional start against "weak" sides) but shouldn't be seen as our solid go to man. Herrera hasn't exactly set the heather alight but he's scored better goals against better opposition than everyone bar Miller so he has to be seen as a first choice for better or worse. Waghorn - I'd start him next game instead of Miller to annoy him and in hope he scores and we punt him on the back of it (ideally with a guy that can head home, a big target man to wrestle space and goals, coming in but I cannae see that happening so if the view at the club is that Waghorn is on a hiding to nothing at us going forward get rid. With rumours that the likes of Sunderland are sniffing, we may not get that opportunity again particularly if he's a non-entity all season).
  6. Pena when he's ready assuming he is here to do something and isn't just our exotic Barton signing to quell anger. Should have better legs than Niko and has more ability than Windass. Windass if you need the woodwork hit to keep the bookies guessing. Niko if you want to use up his 25-game per season allocation. Just now I'd start I'd start Windass, if things aren't panning out result wise then use one of Niko's lives. If the game is in our favour by a couple bring Pena on and build him up, and if/when he's ready he starts then should he be underperforming it's a toss up whether you bring Windass on as a sub or you need magic and are willing to use up a Niko life.
  7. Managed to find the debate I was talking about.
  8. I seem to remember when Brexit happened; on a French politics discussion show had the Germans/Leftists/French all talking as though we need to be crushed and punished for our insubordination etc. etc. and there was a Polish politician/minister or whatever there and while they were all discussing exactly how we would be put in our place he was more close to "Well we need to respect that vote, let's not be hasty or harsh here, if the EU had listened..." and he was getting speared for it and he ended up rolling his eyes at them in a kind of "This is exactly why people don't like the EU". I mention this because Brexit negotiations are happening and Poland imo are our closest allies, will be interesting to see exactly what they do over the next few years.
  9. Apparently, the Polish are considering asking for repatriations for WW2, this banner would appear to be evidence of feeling.
  10. Sweet Company has been smashed into favourite, lips seem very loose on this one.
  11. No sympathy for someone looking to have a go as a mob on a few and getting leathered. I wonder if he finds it embarrassingly galling to be both born under a Union Flag and burst over one.

  14. Morelos while looking like a potentially exciting prospect looks to be making a big step up so I don't expect him to be running a mock. If we play as we have been under Warburton/Pedro then he'll be devoid of service, marked tightly in a packed box, up against teams that hate us so much they play better than they will V Partick the following week, and making a step up - that's a tall order. I'd expect him to be the bench forward for now baring a change in formation/players being unavailable for whatever reason. Pena, a talented individual who is so off the rails off the pitch that it's bled into his game and seen him fall from grace in Mexico to the point he's willing to join our circus. IF he can clean himself up and puts in the effort he should boss it here, we may even get lucky as in he's still got issues but is so good that he still gets pass marks here, time will tell. Probably just not ready yet. If we play to the strengths of our players we should do better than last season with ease (2nd and closer to them).

  19. While I think we have to be realistic and say few of our players seemingly have the mental attributes or ability to overcome those across the city I do think we are more capable than we show. Imagine for a second that instead of taking 25 minutes to get from back to the final third, allowing the opposition to fall back and form 2 banks of 5 around the 18 yard box, we actually sat deep, won the ball and played a quick through ball to O'Halloran (who is playing CF); who is winning the race onto that ball? Scotlands abundance of pacy CB talent or O'Halloran who is effectively a human whippet? As mental as you may think my suggestion is, remember what you see us do every single fucking week; passing from side to side, slow from back to front, no creation/ no movement/no cutting passes/crosses to no one who can head home. You can only piss with the cock you've got (or in this case, bought) and making use of players attributes to good effect seems to me a better idea than asking players with X abilities to play in a system/strategy that requires Y abilities. Morelos and Herrera would struggle (I think) in the style we've played since our return so play to suit your best bets of scoring. Pena has the ability to shoot from distance with precision (assuming he's ready to go) so I'd like to see that from him, what I don't want to see is us continuing the same bollocks that sees us struggle against every time every week.
  20. Anyone know why this game came about? My prediction is 1 down at half time with us scoring to equalise in the second half after the 65th minute, game finishes 1-1.
  21. Just read the OP there and my view is; Barrie isn't necessarily being a cock-socket by stating that he was treated in a way no human should, he could just be saying it was clear he wasn't wanted by the treatment he received, he may have a point. If Pedro wants to be rid of these charlatans (as we do) then he's going to have to make life miserable for them because it's a certainty that they are going to struggle to get deals to their liking from "bidding" teams and most of them will sit in the stands if it means several £K a week more, simple as that. Would explain why the team didn't lift a finger for huge chunks of that qualifying game, they know they aren't wanted and are on the way out so see it as a chance to fuck up the manager as he's fucked up their easy-street, maybe he'll get shafted before they do kinda mentality. Having made this point is equally plausible they are just utter shite compared to what we need them to be and a host of other things I cannae be fucked speculating again. So I'm not going to rip him as we got some money, he did have a few good days, and generally he just wasn't good enough for this club. Good luck to him going forward; hopefully, the culture shock of being in the Championship will do for him what it did Charlie Adam.
  22. Theories: Pedro and this team are absolutely gash. The dreggs from nightmares past aren't lifting a finger because they expect to be off and the new guys are at this moment aren't anywhere near ready. The players think (like we do) that Pedro is a yes man/gamble/whatever that is merely buying time for the board and who'll be gone sooner or later and they (the players) hope sooner. This is all part of a ruse which sees us look like mugs until the season starts proper (and we put the foot to the floor). We're betting on games. Now personally I think to some degree they all have some truth in them, for the money we spunk in a season we may be a distant second but we should still hand the rest their arse week in week out and we don't, hell we still play like we did under Warburton and at times Ally, the signings (in terms of type) seem to mimic the previous manager etc. I'm mentally prepared for the wheels to come off again but hoping for the best because it's highly unlikely we're going to bring in a recognisable manager and players of the ilk required to overcome that mob across the city and we're too much of a gravy train to spend what Aberdeen do and hit the same level (seemingly).
  23. Was grateful to take the job and cheap to appoint when anyone of stature would have fled. Says "I'm very happy with the backing I've received" and "yes boss" at the right times. Comes with a built-in scapegoat mode that will buy time for the board when this season ends seeing him leave the club (easy enough to make stay into the season after that if he "achieves" 2nd this season). Probably a nice enough bloke to know. Doesn't appear to think players from League 1 will piss it here.
