  1. Albert's class is not in doubt, but I'd say that in my time the number 11 jersey belonged to Bud and Laudrup before him. Before my time, and purely on reputation, I'd say that they probably all only got a loan of it from The Wee Society Man.
  2. Laudrup was better than Cooper. He was better than just about everybody else who played for us in the last 40 years too.
  3. Seeing as how Rangers pay for any damage, how will that make us feel good?
  4. For such a brilliant individualist, he was a great team player. Alan Morton once said about Davie Meiklejohn, "With Davie in your team, no game was ever lost". That's the way I always felt with Laudrup...we always had a chance when he was playing, even when a cause seemed lost.
  5. It would be good for the fans, but these teams don't turn up for free. I'd rather we got our team selections and tactics right, so that we didn't get bundled out of cup competitions at the first hurdle, losing all the revenue from subsequent rounds that would make us more financially comfortable...but maybe that's a different debate.
  6. Or it could be said that he at least cares about what the fans think. We've not had that in a while.
  7. I thought I'd start my first thread on the board with a tribute to one of the greatest Rangers ever, RC Hamilton, the captain and top goalscorer of the 1898-99 Invincible side who won every League game, and who played in every game of that season. He also set some other records during his time... He was Rangers top League goal scorer for nine consecutive seasons from 1897-98 to 1905-06. This is a record. (Jimmy Smith is second with seven seasons as Rangers' top goalscorer.) Out of these nine seasons as Rangers top goal scorer, in six of them he was also Scotland's top goal scorer as well. This is another record. (Henrik Larsson is second, being Scotland's top division leading goalscorer five times) Six out of these nine seasons he averaged more than a goal per match. RC Hamilton has scored more goals in Old Firm matches than any player from either side. (Also, his first game against Celtic was at Parkhead in his only season with Queens Park, and he scored all 4 goals in a 4-0 victory) He won 4 Scottish League Championships and 2 Scottish Cup winners medals, as well as 4 Glasgow Cup, 3 Glasgow Charity Cup, 1 Glasgow League, 1 Glasgow International Exhibition Cup, 1 Inter-City League medals. Hamilton won 11 Scottish international caps and scored 15 goals. He remained Scotland's top international scorer until 1929. Bob Hamilton captained the side and scored 4 goals in Scotland's 11-0 victory v Ireland at Parkhead on 23 February 1901. This remains 110 years later Scotland's biggest ever international victory. The following month 16 March 1901 Hamilton became the first Scottish player to score a hat-trick against the English League in a great 6-2 victory at Ibrox. There were seven Rangers players in the winning side. The current Ibrox was opened on 30 December 1899 and captain R.C. Hamilton took the first kick in an Inter City League match against Hearts. http://www.freewebs.com/londonbranchrsc/rchamilton.htm
  8. I'd like to see Mr Smillie becoming a spokesman for one of the Gers groups. Nuremberg's still wondering what to do with the new arsehole he got torn when Andy was on Radio Clyde.
  9. My first attempt at ironic humour has fallen on stoney ground it seems.
  10. I'd like to know what planet the OP lives on. This is likely to be above 35k attendance. I wonder how many clubs have got that for a legends game.
  11. The positioning of the exits at Parkheid were what made it safer. Having them in the middle of the terracing held everyone up, so it was a slower trickle of punters once you got outside.
  12. Correct. Both newspapers also sold souvenir editions at every game with a glossy coloured centrefold photo of a player...or maybe that was just the Citizen? I always got the Citizen anyway, because it was a broadsheet so the photo was as big as you'd get.
  13. Big John leading the team out, and trying to score into the Rangers end as he runs on to the park. Big cheer on the few occasions he got one in. Ronnie McKinnon always coming out for the second half with his hair re-Brylcreemed. Checking the programme to see what letter the filth were on the half time score boards. Nobody talking about the chairman.
  14. The first game was actually 4-0. Conn gave us the lead in the 2nd game before we got pumped.
