gj923 reacted to The Dude in Stewart Robertson out, Bisgrove new CEO
If you ignore the several crypto and NFT scams he signed us up to, botched deals and Sydney, he's been fantastic. I mean, at least we're not still punting kits with a sponsor on it who went out of business a year ago...

With Wilson and Robertson leaving we had a real chance to reset and either replace them with competent replacements or get in a proper high powered, respected CEO.
Instead we’ve promoted a guy who thought the Aussie friendly was a good idea and the footballing dept looks like those already in situ will just get a few more extra jobs to do.

The free signing can actually be a bit of a myth and false economy. They signed hatate for a fee along with wages for 4 years whilst they also signed McCarthy who is probably on more over the term. When you sign from England on a free even the championship you are often giving a decent signing bonus plus a long term contract. Its like how much is Lunstrum costing us over the course of 3 years?

He's probably on a decent wedge and will want the same up here as he could easily get it sitting on a bench down south.
Comes across as really lazy scouting and under FFP wages are a factor in what our signing budget is moving forward.

Then it may be a positive if he is dropping salary that that's not his driving factor in any move here.

I know but its better to have at least 21/22 squad size in Europe rather than 17 - my point which I never actually made was association players should only be signed if they are good enough for the squad - they don't necessarily have to be stuck on first team picks but it would not be a bad thing if they where

Could be but I just hope the rest of the signings are not filled with people on the periphery of English teams

gj923 got a reaction from YankeeGer in Further behind in the league than we were under Pedro / Murty
They have a net spend of about 5 or 6 million since their manager came in so this fallacy that they 10's millions that we do not have is nonsense. Since Gerrard came in we have spent more on players after sales than they have - its not selling players at the right time (until recently) that has cost us the ability to refresh the squad. Also the fact we don't seem to scout many markets relying on England , Belgium, teams we play against or ex players to get our signings mostly.
You are spot on with the mentality as Tav has said this on numerous occasions whilst Goldson also admitted as much after hibs gubbed us

Our lack of focus on producing our own talent has been our major failing ever since 2008 to be honest.
Granted our ownership was questionable for a long period and we were focussed firstly on getting back to the top flight and then on 55 once we were back up, but outside of Patterson and Gilmour we really haven’t produced anyone of note.
It’s a really tricky one as the right moves (in terms of academy) now might not been seen for 5 years by the time players move through the youth and B Team structure, but in my opinion we really need to start making more space for academy players getting meaningful game time for the first team. The only players that have really had a chance this year are King and Devine and both of them were really emergency cover because of injuries.
As you say if we don’t start making meaningful strides in having academy players being part of the first team squad we are going to be seriously hampered in terms of who we can register for Europe. It also has longer term financial implications to, granted a Barry Ferguson generational talent is a once in a blue moon, but we could save so much on squad players if we were using our academy to bulk up the squad / be periphery starters rather than spending money on fees and bosmans which would allow us to focus our resources on bringing in a higher quality of signing.

Arfield has 9 goals this season in a seriously reuced role, if he stays next season he will be in the same role likely on less money. I think it's a no brainer to keep him.

There’s materially no chance that Rangers have fucked anything up medically with him. We won’t be dealing with serious heart conditions in-house.

Doesn't matter. He fucked it twice against the scum when it mattered. Only a convincing win against them will convince me we are going places with him in charge.

MLS season kicks off this week. I imagine his parent club have asked for him back for start of season if we've no intention of buying him. Doubt our board have done any of the leg work.
Waiting for board statement "we've listened to what the fans want...."

Its the wage bill thats the killer, they are easily getting more value for money than we are, arguably we never have done with this shower

Since Gerrard came we have a bigger net spend than them and indeed they are in profit. We have 33 first team players (probably a whole team of them are injured mind you) with them having 26. You are completely correct though when you call for Wilson to be punted but the sad thing is that the board think he's doing a tremendous job.

gj923 got a reaction from Kylegib in Honestly, What’s Changed?
Gerrard came at the start of the 2018/19 season and in 5 seasons up to this one we have spent according to transfermarket 54.3M and sold 52.27M (basically nearly 50M in the last 2 seasons)
Prior to us winning 55 Gerrard was getting slated for getting to spend 30-35M but with no silverware to show for it
They have spent 107.1 M but brought in 127.4
Every year our wage bill has steadily rose as well

Pretty sure its the same as last year we go in at Q3 so that and the playoff to get by. Will be seeded probably for the first one and maybe even the playoff

Is it mentality or quality, fitness and squad age? The cold facts are they have better players than we do now. This “serial loser” mentality thing is a cop out. We don’t have the quality. The squad building has been a disaster since Wilson arrived:
We have a 41 year old keeper. So right there you can’t play a high line against any team with pace.
Two full backs over 30. A midfield of guys like Jack and lundstrum who can’t play a high energetic game and are always carrying a knock. Or guys like Tillman who will come good in a few years.
Sakala who can’t hit an open goal. Colak a journeyman off the bench along with Scott wright.
They have guys like Hatate, CCV, Jota. They’re just better players. All signed in the period Wilson has been here.
The shite facts are Wilson has signed over 30 players and the team still looks like it did under Gerrard-but older.
We’ve sold our good young ones (that we could have built a high tempo game around).
And keep shopping for the same shite in the same markets.

England and Belgium is where we have signed pretty much the vast majority of our players.

According to transfermarket we have since Gerrard came spent just under 2 Million (ins - outs) whereas they are in profit by 20M
We need to stop signing people with crap injury records (roofe and souttar for exmple) as well as selling players early in their contracts.
There is also more markets than just the English one , i know we have signed players from elsewhere but we keep going back there and paying over the odds especially in wages. A few games in we are hailing them as superstars despite us not winning anything with them.
