At risk of contradicting myself here, but i do agree with earlier post in that we should sell Tav and play Patterson. Its the smart thing to do financially- which we cant ignore.

Maybe some players are becoming a bit stale under Gerrard. Its been pretty much the same team for 3 years running now. Perhaps a change will benefit the wider squad and give some of the guys on the periphery a chance. Im not happy hes going, particularly as we likely haven't planned for it, but not much we can other than push on and focus on who is here.

Exactly, players are used to comings and goings it comes with the territory. We are a different proposition now and will lure a good manager, no probs. Lets face it, all we need to do is beat a 56 yr old Aussie with a wafer thin squad of midgets. We have the biggest and best squad and the players know their role in the system, having done it for 3 years.

Ripped Gerrards team apart with 10 men and a fraction of the budget. Thats whats pissing me off, he will cite lack of investment for him leaving and possibly family (which i get). But we have backed him massively in current climate and had he got us past Malmo (and ludogrets?) our finances would be much rosier. And he would have got additional investment.

Didnt he say the other week he was happy here when asked about Newcastle? Don't think the last weeks been bad enough for him to change his mind! Tbf, i want him to stay but if he wants to go then fair enough. He stopped them winning 10 and i will always been thankful to him and team for that. Half way through a season would be a bit shit but you know the old saying 'no one is bigger than the Club'. We will carry on & move forward with or without SG, that's for certain!.

Its hard to say as we've seen so little of him. My perception at this early stage is he is happy to try things in possession, but doesn't track back as much as others. Whether hes been told not to or he just switches off - ive no idea. Gerrard has tolerated Alfredos drop in workrate so it can done if the final product is there.

Beale would be least risky for continuity for us, but he is Gerrards main man so could be an interesting tug of war.
