  1. If John Churchill (1st Duke of Marlborough) had just taken James prisoner or killed him rather than just taking his cavalry and riding off to join William of Orange none of this would have happened. James ended up having nowhere to go for loyal supporters in England so ended up over the Irish sea causing trouble there. If you like a good read, and have a lot of spare time, read Winston Churchill's Marlborough books. It's a great way to get the whole history of Britain & Europe at that time.
  2. Actually he is really clever. I have been in a couple of situations where he was present ( a Burns Supper and in court (I was a witness not in the dock) ) and he came across as a smart chap.
  3. It's such a sad story. I did not know about Margaret. My wife is also called Margaret Ferguson so it strikes home. I wasn't at the game though I could have been. Such a sad day.
  4. I don't care if we did get some money for him I don't want any of the traitors getting money from us now they can't even get on the bench they ran to so fast a few years back.
  5. My father was a Freemason and although he invited my sister's septic supporting hubby to join the lodge I never was invited being a long hared hippy guitar playing type.
  6. His name is Docherty btw, but I can't edit the title
  7. they were all down there at the end. The away fans were on the upper tier (a bit like if we put them on the club deck) so the Shrewsbury players could not get very close.
  8. I was at Sunderland v Shrewsbury today (obviously I was at the wrong game) and our midfielder Greg Docherty was playing for the away side. He plays number 8 and put in a full shift, made a couple of good chances, took corners and free kicks, got booked for a tackle, was booed for throwing the ball away (to hold up play so helping his side) and at the end of the match went round and shook the hands of his team mates having gained a valuable point away from home. Looked a good player and should be much better when playing in a better team.
  9. video not working for me. seems to be wrong speed, missing frames, anyway it's a reminder of a great night. I have not been for ages (I live in England now) so it was a super night to be back at Ibrox. Got my ticket for Europa game in November so hoping for a repeat. I haven't seen the Rangers support that happy for several years.
  10. I was in hospitality in the club deck. After the game there was a party up and down the whole club deck. There are various separate rooms and everyone was mingling in the corridor behind them and parting load and hard.
  11. the being offside thing is confusing. Surely all players understand the concept and know how to stay onside. Why would Morelos or anyone else keep getting it wrong?
  12. the final in Barcelona 1972, because we won the cup. (I don't remember the Bayern game at Ibrox to be honest. I was there but the memories are gone)
  13. the paper coasters were used in hospitality. I have them and also the little blue matches and various bits n bobs.
  14. Harry left a vey nice message on Twitter about Rangers and wished the club well. He seemed a nice chap who played some decent football but just not that often. All the best for the future Harry.
  15. by the way, all the girls in Croatia are really badly dressed & generally turned out poorly. Most girls going from over here to there look so much better than the locals. (was there on holiday a few years ago)
  16. I live in England so I'm not against the local team doing well in the world cup. I lived in Helensburgh previously and it turns in to little England during the world cup due to all the English sailors so I'm actually seeing fewer English flags down here in Northumberland. ps: On my flagpole I fly either the Lion Rampant, St Andrew's Cross, Union Jack but never the St George's Cross.
  17. bottom line is that a labrador from kennel club registered parents is around £500 unless you are buying a dog from show champions. Insurance should be no more than £200. A puppy is so unlikely to need major medical care unless bought from a puppy farm that it's a waste of money to get dear insurance. Later on Labs can get join issues and other problems so dearer insurance might be beneficial. All that really matters is that it's a healthy pet in a loving home. Labradors are great dogs.
  18. £500 for dog insurance :)) That's a bit steep. I can't be bothered looking up the price of a Lab puppy (a very common breed) but the last 3 pedigree dogs I know off each cost under £600. So I'm a bit confused it this thread is for real.
  19. private car seems crazy. So many get there by car & then have to get away again in all that traffic. I'm train and subway when I manage to get there. As a lad I was supporters' bus.
  20. I was at the game. Got my ticket via Canon the copier company. They apologised that it was just a seat not hospitality :) I got my ticket in Manchester. The bloke said to look for the only person without a Rangers top in one of the squares and sure enough I found him. After several hours of soaking up the atmosphere pre-match I went to see Iron Man at the cinema, came out, bought a match T-Shirt and went to the game. I bought 2 programs (one for a friend's hubby) and got the Carlsberg blue hair freebies being handed out. Did not have a drop of alcohol as I was driving. I did not know there was any trouble till the next day. As for the game, I lived in Helensburgh at the time not too far from Walter and kept hoping I would bump in to him to moan about tactics.
  21. Like many others I predicted that celtic would lose. I even suggested they would lose by one goal. Cheating, gamesmanship, whatever you call it celtic threw the points away on purpose.
  22. Without discussing individual cases it is common for people to declare themselves bankrupt with assets, property etc being in the name of a trusted loved one or business partner. It is unlikely that our Barry is broke but simply managing his last few million for the future.
  23. I agree with the OP. After the draw with Kilmarnock which set the scene to show that the squad are too busy thinking about the cup final Brenda will give a team talk along the lines of :- 'I know some of you lads have morals and scruples but you have to put all that aside because we can do the dirty by letting the Baa Baa's win the match. The fans will know what we are doing. They will even cheer the other team's goal."
  24. The best named Rangers Player ever of course, and I'm not biased.
  25. I live in England so I see plenty of news reports on English football. In my opinion Alan Pardew is not successful enough to be on any list for Rangers manager.
