  1. We all hate international breaks and coming off the back of two home losses it makes it seem twice as long but Murty has a chance to do something productive.

The reason we have our worst home record since 1914 isn’t down to players being afraid of Ibrox or the flat atmosphere on days like Saturday.

Its down to our opponents setting up against us knowing exactly how we’ll play and they know exactly how to frustrate us.

Murty to me is Warburton v2.0. He plays one way and one way only, he wants to be respectful and friendly with everyone but in particular his squad and he isn’t learning from his mistakes.

Lets start with the obvious. 4-2-3-1 is what he likes to play whether it’s home or away, against Fraserburgh or the scum. Now it’s fine for a manager to have a favoured formation, I get that and I see why we’ve signed who we did in January (with the exception of Cummings who really isn’t suited to playing the lone striker role) but when you setup the same way with nearly the same XI every week you may as well have done a Pedro and announce your first team days ahead of the match because we are predictable.

If Murty wants the job then he has to make changes. I don’t think he’s capable of tactical adjustments during a game so if that’s the case let’s see if he can do it with a 2 week gap between matches.

Imagine the scenario where Clarke is expecting 4-2-3-1 with perhaps the only question mark is whether Cummings plays or Morelos to then see we have gone to a 5-3-2 WB. Now I’m not saying this instantly wins you the match but it gives him something else to deal with. He was expecting a lone striker and wingers where if he packs the box and sits a bank of 4 in front that you can pretty much deal with anything provided your players remain disciplined. Now he has 3 in the middle and two up top. He’s not used to seeing us play this way and will have to wait to see how to adjust his tactics. Ok so it means you drop Murphy and Candeias to the bench but that means you have two really effective wide players on the bench so that you can react as the game changes.

This is what we need to do in order to break down defensive teams at Ibrox. We need options in our approach and keep them guessing rather than just doing the same thing over and over and just trying to do it better. As predictable as we are so too are our opponents at Ibrox yet we have failed to plan for this.

I don’t believe Murty has any notion of doing something like the above or he lacks the balls to drop certain players. Either way if he keeps doing what he is just now he shouldn’t get the job permanently.

As for the respect comment I feel he’s too soft on the squad. Ask yourself this. What would a Souness or a Smith said after Saturday, “Guys you need to keep believing”? No, they’d have launched into them because results and performances like that are not what made us who we are. This is why I feel he’s best suited to working with youth players so that you keep that positivity going rather than knocking lumps out of them emotionally to build them back up and build character.

Learning from mistakes was my last point. Murty said of Cummings “I thought it was a good game that would fit him, but he doesn’t play in isolation”. For me this shows two things. Firstly. He says he thought it would be a good game that would fit him. So this suggests that he thought Killie were going to give us space in and around the box to give Cummings clear chances to score. If this is the case then he’s alarmingly off the mark tactically. Secondly, he doesn’t play in isolation. Well true to form Murty plays one up top and given Killie’s tactics he was always going to be isolated whereas if Morelos was alongside and able to ruffle some feathers in the back line then Cummings may have had something to work with. Surely he saw from other games previously that Cummings needs a partner up top? I just don’t think he is actually learning he just knows that it sounds good (or at least he thinks it does but we are wise to the bullshit that we get fed after every poor result/performance).

So it’s up to Murty to do something here. If we simply line up the same way and try the same things game after game then the board really need to do what’s right and let him go or demote back to u20s. He’s an inexperienced manager therefore some leeway is given but that period of leniency is over in my mind. 5 home defeats out of the 7 have been under Murty and we’ve seen the losses to Hamilton, St Johnstone and Killie have the same hallmarks of a well organised defensive unit frustrate us and hit us on the break. He’s not learning, he’s not adjusting things during or in between matches and for me unless he manages to win the Scottish cup and not lose again in the league he’s not going to be our manager next season.

  2. HITC have an article on him:

    Quote

Niko Kranjcar hasn't played for Ibrox side Glasgow Rangers in over a month.

Niko Kranjcar of Rangers in action during a pre-season friendly between Rangers FC and Burnley FC at Ibrox Stadium on July 30, 2016 in Glasgow, Scotland.

Barring a pretty serious capitulation, Rangers will finish second in the Scottish Premiership this season.

Graeme Murty's side are nine points adrift of high-flying celtic - who also have a game in hand - but five clear of Aberdeen in third and they should, in theory, finish in the runners-up spot come May.

Considering that the Gers have won six of their last seven games in all competitions and scored 25 goals during that time, there is every chance that the in-form Ibrox side could all but secure second place in the coming weeks.

And if they establish an unassailable lead over the Dons, should Murty give someone like Niko Kranjcar the chance to earn a new contract at Ibrox?

The Croatia international has been frozen out of Rangers' first team by Murty since January, but the 33-year-old, who turns 34 in August, remains one of the most gifted players in the squad and could be a big asset next season.

Niko Kranjcar of Rangers during the Ladbrokes Scottish Premiership match between Rangers and Hamilton Academical at Ibrox Stadium on August 6, 2016 in Glasgow, Scotland.

With the incentive of possibly earning a new deal, few would back against the former Premier League playmaker - whose contract expires this summer - of reminding Scottish football of his undoubted class toward the end of the campaign.

Playing Kranjcar would require Murty to drop Josh Windass in that number 10 role, but it could also be viewed as a chance to give the 24-year-old star a bit of a rest leading up to the Scottish Cup semi-final with celtic next month.

If Rangers get to a position where second place is effectively sewn up, there is very little to lose if Murty re-introduces Kranjcar back into the side, but a lot to potentially gain.

Full interview he mentions how he think he & the team will be better off after Saturdays experience, first time sampling OF for some players & he has never heard a noise like it in his entire life when the first goal went it.

Recognised that the goals we lost were basic defending and very poor.

Well it’s essential that they all actually learn from it rather than just saying it for the sake of saying it.

We had enough of that with Warburton before and we don’t need it again.

Sunday really hurt but if we do actually use it to our advantage then it’ll be worth it in the end.

Member when Andy Halliday was sent off for celebrating a goal?

Against our bitter rivals Morton that was going to incite a riot from a fist pump.

All we ask for is fairness and consistency but in this cesspit of a country that seems like too much to ask for.

Only way we are going to stop it is to put them in their place on the park and win 55, then 56 the year after.

  5. Following yesterdays result (as I usually do) I thought I'll start up a new save with Rangers and seeing as the winter transfer updates are out it seemed all the more apt.

Made a point of focusing on our current squad i.e. no new signings, and in particular the tactics to use.

I opted for a 4-2-4 WB in my first 2 games in charge against who else but Progres Niederkorn. I think I did alright:

  6. It’s scum behaviour but you’d expect nothing less.

I keep saying it the way to stop it is to win 55, regain the power and the SNP will be out on their arses before too long too and it’ll swing back round to normality. Plus winning 55 will see a reduction in their support due to the mass suicide of trying to deal with 55.

  7. Murray said in his post match he was screaming at his players to play it the way they normally do and they kept lumping the ball in the box from deep.

Just went to shit yesterday and everyone looking for a single person to blame but the truth is there is blame all round. Too many 5 out of 10s rather than 7s with a few 8 and 9s

  8. Is this the same patience that Murty showed in waiting to make a change following the red card or following Goss’ poor performance or Windass’ disappearance from the game following his goal?

I said it with Warburton that his downfall was the whole Plan B is to do Plan A better. Murty could well be repeating Warburton’s mistakes.

If Murty wants to be permanent manager then he has to start showing some guile. I hope it’s there and I hope he’s not just another one trick pony who plays one formation and tries to fit players in the formation (he spoke about Cummings wide left if Murphy didn’t make it and Cummings is not a left winger).

  9. The problem I have with all of this is Morelos playing in a true partnership with Cummings would tick the boxes.

You have your strong player, capable of holding up the ball, dropping deep, drifting wide and linking up with the midfield. Then you have your penalty box striker who'll be looking to get on the end of everything, score poachers goals from mistakes in the box or saves getting pushed back into play.

The big problem is if you go down that route the rest of the formation has to change as our central midfield isn't strong enough to just have the 2 without an attacking midfielder sitting between the striker and midfield. So you go to a 3 in the central midfield. Then that means if you want to play Murphy and Candeias you have only got 3 players left for defence. So you play 3 central defenders. Then what of Tavernier and John? Ok so play Tavernier and John as wingbacks in a 5-3-2 WB but that means dropping Murphy and Candeias.

Thats the issue here. We've built a team to play a certain way and this doesn't involve a classic striking partnership. This means you make a choice between Morelos and Cummings. Each player offers different qualities therefore you'll never get the best out of both in my opinion.

I honestly thought docherty would be. I have by doubts now.

    He's 21 FFS.

It takes something special from a player of that age to lead.

We saw it in Ferguson and there are signs of it in McCrorie but we can't simply expect him to be like that 6 games into his Rangers career.

  11. Any chance if Bates is out for a while we can call back Aidan Wilson from Dumbarton?

Wilson impressed me last season when he got drafted in against the sheep and certainly more comfortable than Cardozo looked yesterday.

  12. I really think Murty needs to have a think about tactics.

Morelos all too often drops deep or drifts wide leaving 0 strikers in the box (not classing Windass as a striker here).

Now let Morelos do what he’s doing but get him to beat a man, draw the defence (as he did when he pegged their centre half) and then Cummings takes up the prime poachers position.

Playing two up top with 2 wingers could be the way to go. The trouble is midfield is a bit light but as I said during the game we had a lot of space when we lifted it over the top to the wings.
