outlaw69uk 123
QUOTE ( @ Jun 22 2009, 04:46 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>The ideal solution is for the SPL to go with SKY lets not make the same mistake. Absolutely! Thing as well is, the amount of money we get for coverage is fek all, so, even though Sky are paying less, it makes sense. Good coverage, far better quality, and, we get some stability. Add to that, if the SPL is on Sky, its somehow perceived as a "better" product. If its not on sky, its no good, seems to be the general view

Sky as you say has a prestige about it, if the SPL knock it back again they need there heads look at.

GeneralCartmanLee 313
ESPN won't be a pay channel in the style of setanta... ESPN plans to make its Barclays Premier League coverage widely available across multiple pay-TV platforms. As a first step to this distribution strategy, ESPN has reached an agreement for its coverage to be retailed by Sky to residential and commercial customers. It will be part of the sky package, starting to think they are a serious contender now, you may even find sky up there bid after losing both the EPL packages
willboy1873 0
What will happen to the Rangers TV channel? TannochsideBear 355
Great news about the end of Scumtanta, and not a moment too soon. I am also delighted to hear that, much to the "experts" surprise, ESPN (owned by Disney) have secured both packages for EPL games for 2009-10 and the one remaining package for 2010 onwards. The slots for the games are 515pm on a Saturday and Monday nights. This frees up some room for SKY to broadcast SPL football at 515pm on Saturday evenings, and perhaps even Monday evenings. I hope SKY now put in a bid to secure the SPL rights for the next few years. I suppose another option is that ESPN buy the SPL to compliment their EPL games, and if that is the case, Sunday afternoons could be retained, as these KO's are certainly popular with match-going fans. Either way, I am just happy that the very biased, poor quality, Scumtanta, together with Booth, Hartson, Delahunt, Crocker et all, are now officially unemployed. Ha F*ckin Ha you scummy bassas. What a perfect end to a season that already had them spewing.
908 14
Well done to all those who are glad to see Setanta's demise. Just don't be bleating about bias next season when Davie Provan and Charlie Nicholas are covering our matches instead. It is, in my opinion deeply disturbing for British society as a whole the stranglehold Murdoch has over the media en masse. What he says goes, every paper follows his party line, and he basically gets to pick and choose the Prime Minister of this great country. And this malign and undemocratic foreign influence would not be possible without the bedrock of Sky Sports' Premiership football coverage. In a genuinely free market country (like the USA) competition is welcomed, but the Murdoch empire have now effectively destroyed all competition in the UK media sector. No sports broadcaster will ever try to compete with them again. And this isn't just bad news for football, but bad news for British society as a whole. Look at how gullible the UK public have become. People pay over the odds to watch shows such as the Simpsons on High Definition TV. It's like the story of the emperors new clothes - you get the box, you notice it isn't really that much better (if at all) than it was before, but you don't complain, because Sky is seen as a high quality luxury product, despite the fact you'll see more of Murdoch's reciever dishes passing through any housing scheme on the bus than you would in neighbourhoods where everybody works and has their own home. Some schemes you will see condemned blocks with boarded up windows, half demolished but the Sky dishes remain defiant. It is a sad, but telling fact of life in the UK today that in the areas with most poverty there are more satellite dishes than cars. So well done to those who want to remain in the hands of Sky TV and the Murdoch empire. But do me a favour please, don't ever again come on moaning about the Scottish Sun or Graham Spiers' latest column in the Times - because without your subscriptions, these people wouldn't have jobs. And ill let u into a wee secret, murdoch is retired, u will find that it is jeremy daroch who makes the decisions! and at the end of the day if sky is willing to pay the money then whats the problem! docspiderman 1,225
Next problem is thespl negotiations with prospective buyers. Can we really trust Gold and Co to get the best deal for the clubs? The the member clubs would have to agree and with one club one vote those chairmen who have shown no financial acumen will again have the major say and probably insist on the televising of scintillating games like Motherwell v Kilmarnock and Hamilton v Falkirk when it is really only old firm supporters who are the target viewers.
